Dell C3039 Inspiron 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150, and 5160 Series 24X CDRW/8X DVD Drive (C3039) Burner Questions & Answers
Hi what keys do i press to format a dell inspiron
If you mean wiping the hard drive & starting fresh I would do a low
level format. This will make the hard drive
as if it was new from the store, but you will have to reload Windows
& other software. You should have a good knowledge of computers
before doing this or ask a friend who knows computers to help.

Here is a link to some free password recovery software.
You will have to download it at a friends.

Yes you can do a customize update whenever windows tell you there is a update available you should uncheck driver updates. This should prevent any driver update which may cause a conflict.
good luck
Dell Inspiron 1100 powers up but screen stays
You don't say whether or not your OS is starting. Is the sound letting you know it is? Either way it won't hurt to try this.
Turn it on and give it time to boot up. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen while looking at it very closely. Slowly move the flashlight while changing the angle the light hits the screen at. If you happen to see your anything (logon screen, desktop wallpaper, icons, whatever), then that means your backlight has gone out. If you don't, there is a chance the LCD has gone bad. You can also connect an external monitor to it. Just don't forget to switch over to it ( [FN] + F8)!
BTW - I warn you that either of those can cost more to fix than that laptop is worth now...
Dell Inspiron 1501
If the laptop keeps working, and you can use it on an external screen, then it is likely an hardware fault.
First perform a complete system recovery, like probably already instructed by the Dell support helpdesk. This will practically exclude the possibility of a driver or system problem.
If the problem is hardware , then you may have a faulty inverter board , a bad LCD display/LCD ribbon connection, or a faulty video adapter (integrated with motherboard).
If the problem is the inverter, then the screen will go dark, and the laptop will keep working on external display. This is probably your case.
If the problem is LCD display or ribbon cable, then the display will be blank with light on , and the laptop will keep working on external monitor.
Fault concerning video adapter usually cause the the system not to work at all, and it is uncommon under conditions described.
Ive connected my dell insiron 1150 to my samsung
Easy...
Connect the vga cable from laptop to tv and then:
Press and hold the blue fn key at the bottom left of the keyboard.
Then (while holding fn) press and release the f8 key to toggle between laptop lcd and external monitors.
Enjoy.
I put a dvd in my dell inspiron 1150 combo dvd cd andit will not
Uninstall the program and reinstall it,
maybe the disk with the drivers will solve your problem,
if no disk download the drivers from
www.dell.com
or try the manufacturer ofr the dvd drive for the drivers too
also what Service Pacxks do you have installed on this machine
XP will need at least SP2 for some of you high speed devices ie usb2.0

Wireless connection is active with good signal,
Check for any spyware and virus with a good antivirus and spyware, later, check for any firewall activated, there should be one firewall in your machine. check for any ip manual assigned to the computer, you should leave it in automatic.
WILL NOT BOOT UP IT STALLS OUT.
I would boot up to safemode (assuming that works) and type MSCONFIG in the run box. Check selective startup, then go to the selective start up tab and uncheck everything.
Click apply or ok.
Restart the PC and let windows load normally. If it does, then one of the things you unchecked was causing the problem.
I would then open the MSCONFIG again (can do this without entering SAFE mode for now). And then check one thing back at a time and restart the PC. If it hangs up on the last thing you unchecked than you have your answer.
Go back to safemode and uninstall whatever was causing the hangup.
For hardware issue try this:
1. Full power down. Unplug the power cord from the Power supply. Then hold down the pc power button (this discharges any residual power in the capacitors).
2. Open the case and reseat the graphics card, hard drive, and RAM.
3. Take out one of the RAM sticks if there is 2 or more. Swap the RAM sticks in different RAM slots. Try one stick at a time to see if you can get the PC to boot. If this works, then the remaining ram sticks are damaged.
4. Set the Cmos jumper to clear. Power up the pc. Power down the PC. Set the Cmos jumper back to normal position, power up the PC.
5. Unplug and replug all the power supply cables.
6. Check the powersupply function. Either by a powersupply voltage checker (20-25 dollars at local PC shop), get the supply tested at a PC shop (usually a free service), put the powersupply in a different pc, or try a different powersupply in the problem computer.
If the Powersupply checks out ok, then you will have to do a process of elimination to find out what part or parts are the culprit of the No-Boot.
Start by pulling all the ram sticks if you have not already. This is the easiest components to check and usually a culprit.
Take out one of the RAM sticks if there is 2 or more. Swap the RAM sticks in different RAM slots. Try one stick at a time to see if you can get the PC to boot. If this works, then the remaining ram sticks are damaged.
If it is not the RAM, you have to continue removing items such as sound cards, un-plugging hard drives and optical drives, other PCI cards. Do this one at a time until you find the culprit. If a POST screen, meaning you can see Anything from the PC brand name to Motherboard brand name appearing on the screen.
I want to know about some adventures video games?
Check out Big Fish Games. It is a subscription service but they have all types of games including adventure and hidden object. You can also tryp Pogo since they have both a fee and subscription service. Last, but not least, you can try one of your local computer stores or the electronics section of "big box" stores like Target, Walmart, Kmart, etc.
