Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
etc....
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately

No power on

Hi , i have a motherboard from a dell inspiron 1521 , i payed for a mostly complete base as i needed the case for a cracked 1520 case , anyway the motherboard had a short in the board because when you plug a power adapter in the green led would go out and no blue leds on the mb would show , i decided to have a look at the mb but did not see anything of interest so i connect 1 lead of my meter to ground the other probed around the power supply parts of the mb , did not find much until i came to part of the edge near the heatsink , there are 2 small smc caps marked (pc135) and (pc27) next to (fl6) if you put the meter across these 2 caps you get about 0.1 ohms , i did not no which was faulty so removed both and rechecked across ware they were the meter now says 23meg ohms and when i plug in the adapter i now get a blue power light . I hope this helps some one .

Some windows files deleted in error can i get them back?

Most of it can be recovered with a recovery disk. You should have it when you bought the computer. Or can ask a friend with the same model. Put the recovery disk in you CD/DVD drive. Restart computer press F2, or delete either to get in CMOS setup. Set the Boot sequence to CD/DVD drive in the CMOS. Save and reboot computer. It should boot from the CD/DVD drive and follow the instructions. But if this doesn't fix. Try reinstalling Windows. If you are lucky this should repair. But it could also mean it cannot be repaired and you need a fresh install. Sorry mate and Good luck.

Dell Inspiron 1521 battery not

Laptop batteries power a laptop when it is not connected to an electrical outlet. If the laptop battery fails to charge when the laptop is plugged into an electrical outlet, the battery is likely dead and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately there is no way to fix a dead battery. However, while a dead battery is the likely cause, it is not the only cause. The AC adapter may be broken, in which case the battery won't charge, or the battery contacts may be dirty and need cleaning. Prior to replacing the battery, perform simple tasks to ensure a dead battery is the cause of the problems.

1.Power down the laptop. Gently pull the AC adapter from the side of the laptop for removal.

2.Place the laptop in front of you, bottom side up. Locate the battery release mechanism. This can be a button that slides or needs to be pushed to unlock or release the laptop battery from the housing unit. Press or slide the mechanism. Slide or lift the battery from the battery bay for removal.

3.Insert the AC adapter into the side of the laptop. Power on the laptop. If the laptop does not power on, ensure the AC adapter is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. If the electrical outlet is working and the laptop won't power on, the AC adapter is not properly working and needs to be replaced. Remove the AC adapter.

4.Dip a cotton swab in a small amount of rubbing alcohol. The cotton swab should be damp, not dripping wet. Lightly rub the dampened cotton swab onto the battery contacts and battery bay contacts to remove dust, buildup and grime. Allow the contacts to air dry.

5.Align the battery over the battery bay. Either press or slide into place. A clicking or snapping noise produced from the locking mechanism will confirm the laptop battery is securely locked into place.

6.Install the AC adapter. Allow the AC adapter to fully charge the battery for 8 hours.

7.Remove the AC adapter. Power on the laptop. If the laptop does not power on, the battery needs to be replaced.

Insperob 1521 #4fypgdi-595b is locked up. how do I reset my computer

If you want to just reset it to reboot, hold powert button 5 seconds and it is enough. Press F8 upon reboot and try to boot into safe mode (remove user account password restriction). If you mean "hard reset" it is not possible, you must reinstall OS with original disc.

Blk screen even though the comp is on

some times the florescent back light burns out or it could be a bad graphics card. If you think the computer is running but you can not see any thing on the screen try tilting the laptop towards a light and see if you can see shadows on the desktop. If you can see shadows then it is the back light. If you can't see anything then maybe your graphics card is bad

Not powering on

If your laptop won't turn on, you could have any number of problems. The problem might be a genuine power issue derived from either battery failure or simply a loose AC adapter. Conversely, it may only appear to be a power failure, and the problem may lie with another component. Errors in brightness settings and LCD display malfunctions can both make a laptop appear to be powered off, and all these problems will need to be corrected. Look at the battery indicator light on your computer. Is it on? If so, check your brightness settings. If your laptop appears that it is not on, it may in actuality have lowered brightness settings. If the brightness setting is at its lowest setting, the laptop screen will be completely dark, and the laptop will appear to be powered off, even though it is not. Try cranking up the brightness settings. Check your AC power adapter. Is it snugly plugged into the wall or surge protector? Make sure the connection is made and it is not loose. Also, try connecting the power adapter into a different wall outlet. Check the status of your laptop battery by considering how long you have had the same battery. Most modern batteries are only good for about 1,000 full charges. After that point, the battery can and eventually will greatly deteriorate. Replace your battery if necessary. Replace your battery by powering off your laptop and then flipping it over and locating the battery cover outline, which will be near the bottom back of your laptop. Remove any screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pop off the battery cover. Slide out the old battery. Put in the new battery by sliding it in until it clicks, and then replace the cover. Consider replacing your laptop monitor. Your laptop may power on, but if the monitor display does not work, it will appear to be off and you will not be able to operate the machine. Check to see if your current LCD display works by plugging your laptop up to an external monitor using a VGA cable. If the external monitor displays your computer contents, your computer motherboard and underlying systems are still working, but your display will need to be replaced. Replace an LCD display by removing the screws around the bezel of your current display with a Phillips screwdriver. Pop off the bezel carefully and remove it. Then, locate the screws on the two metal brackets beneath the bezel and on either side of the display, and remove these too. Disconnect the inverter cable, which is plugged into the inverter. The inverter is located just beneath the display, at the bottom-center of the laptop. Then, pull back and slide out the old display, and replace it with the new. Put the metal bracket screws back in place, reconnect the inverter cable, and then pop the bezel in place. Replace the bezel screws. Hope this helps.

Dvd drive wont work

Hi

try the following

Right click My Computer / Manage / Storage / Storage Management. can you see on the right in the graphical display the DVD drive? if yes, does it have a drive letter? if no, right click on it and assign any unused drive letter. after this assignment the drive should show up again in My Computer.

If this doesn't work go in the device manager. is there a yellow exclamation mark or even a red sign beside the DVD/CD drive? if yes double click this entry. on the new window click on the "Driver" tab. click on "driver update", then follow the instructions on the screen

If still facing the issue means

Open the below site and download the driver.

Black screen issue

If all lights are coming on, hook a monitor to the video output, if okay the inverterboard just below the laptop screen is defective or the built in backlight behind the LCD display. But! if both show the same symptom it is the video graphics chip.
