My Maytag MTB2156DEB fridge died. Electricity is on, lights are on but nobody home, I.E., no cooling. my old fridge had a "reset" button which I found out after the repairman charged a bundle to press. ...

Hi,

Your model doesn't have a reset button, this is non-electronic. First, tap on control panel to see if cold control is stuck. (tap on beat) If it starts it could be a bad control. Does to compressor click like it wants to start? Lastly, there is a defrost timer within the control housing, with a screwdriver rotate the timer slowly to see if the timer is stuck. If the unit starts running it could be that the timer needs to be replaced. Get back to me and I can help further if needed. Good Luck

My freezer is not working its defrosting everything. Is there a reset or something I can do to fix it?

No reset button . Having no model number I gotta guess your timer is stuck in defrost. You must find the timer and advance it into the RUN mode. If the timer is good I would next take a look at the relay on the compressor. They fall apart overtime:

If this is one of the fancier ice boxes with auto defrost mess
then your thermistors could be bad or control board gone south. More Here

Defrost is stuck in one all time it not cooling or freezing

A DEFROST TIMER is a cycling device, it times the frequency and duration that the defrost heater coils melt the ice that builds up around the evaporator coils. If ice is allowed to build up, air will not be able to freely flow past them - resulting in reduced efficiency and sometimes a drastic warming of the cooling unit.

zjlimited_1583.jpg

Most of the time, the defrost timer is in the cooling mode, allowing the compressor to activate when the thermostat signals it to. The remaining part of the cycle (usually less than 30 minutes)the timer is in defrost mode. In this mode, it signals the defrost heaters to melt the ice build up on the coils. This defrost action is limited by the defrost thermostat. If your DETROST TIMER go to bad, one symptom would be if your refrigerator is not cooling. Although there are many causes of this symptom, A stuck defrost timer can be one of them. The timer can get stuck in cooling (compressor activated) or defrost mode (defrost heaters activated) for usually two reasons:
- The timer motor can fail for one.
- The gears can also become locked up.

No matter what the reason is or which mode the defrost timer gets stuck in, the refrigerator can stop cooling. When the refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode, the compressor no longer comes on to cool the unit. If the timer gets stuck in cooling mode, the evaporator coils never get a chance to defrost, causing ice build-up to the point where there is a complete blockage of airflow past the coils.

The defrost timer can also cause the refrigerator to stop cooling due to failure of the internal switch which activates either the compressor or heater coils. Finally, when doing any repair on a refrigerator, check the condenser coils for dust buildup and clean accordingly.

Good luck.

The unit won't turn on or off. I've changed the battery but still no response. also the reset button is stuck and won't work

A stuck reset switch keeps the timer in a rest mode so that nothing else will function. Try to operate the switch so as to free it. Then reprogram the timer if you are successful.

GE Profile PFSF5 NJWA BB

There is a timer that determines the defrost of the cooling coil inside the back wall of the freezer. defrost timer may be located in the area of the controls for temperature. Look for a hole in that area and recessed in that hole you may find a clutch head screw. Turn this screw clockwise very SLOWLY until you hear one click. The freezer coil will be in the defrost mode for 18-22 minutes and then the refrigerator should return to the cooling mode. Make sure the condenser is clean and free of dust and dirt. Condenser is where the heat is removed from the refrigeration system and on most models it is located in back behind a removable panel. Reinstall the panel after cleaning the condenser.
