My CD/DVD Drive all of a sudden started doing some weird stuff...
It's an LG Standard Drive shipped with an HP SR5160AN Desktop Comp, worked fine ever since I purchased said comp, until a day or so ago.
The Drive will read CD's, DVD's no worries. BUT, I place an empty DVD Disc into the drive, and when I try to burn anything, I am told there is no free space on the Disc. When I looked into it, it appears the Disc has 0 Bytes Free of 0 Bytes? These discs are all empty, but I went and bought a new set of a different brand... same problem. Blank CD's and DVD's are 'full', even though there's nothing on them, and they have a size of 0 bytes.
What is going on? There were no updates or anything ever changed since I last used it successfully to burn a DVD Image, then all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, it won't burn a thing ._.
Goto HP's website to the support section download the drivers and replace your current ones. If it still does not the drive has failed and needs replacement.

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
good luck
NO PC stated dang. laptop or desk? internal DVD drive or external HP solds all 3. NO OS stated. windows? Windows what>????? no real DVD partnumber stated only the usless front bezel number 740. if yours is marked 2001,, its going to be a big problem. 9 years past HP support. and all old drive are weak now or scratched optics. and drives that old were even full of bugs then (we an link you to 10,000 pages showing that)
why not upgrade it.? get a new drive and new fresher OS. windows 10 and a nice new blu-ray burner. and move on. or if this rig (PC) is 2001 why not go to GOODWILL and buy a 2010 PC< for like $25 and i bet it works 10x better.
Try running a cleaner disc in the unit if that doesnt work try the following.
Starting at my computer... Right click on my computer icon.
Go to properties.
Then Hardware tab then go device manager. Right click on cdrom in device list. Select uninstall then reboot the computer. If this doesn't help replacing the unit will be necessary.
Hadi-23-Jan-2009 Hello, I am using LG GSA-H55N. Few days back it was reading DVD's properly but
suddenly stopped playing DVD's. It is showing the drive but on clicking
the drive letter it is showing a blank page. Please help
Do you have software capable of writing to a DVD? Its no good having a drive that can read a DVD - that is all it can do without software. I suspect that is why it is chucking your disc out!
If you have no software then look on the net for some free stuff - plenty about, or buy Nero
Can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. Use CD/DVD cleaning disk
3. Disk is recorded in higher speed than your driver can read (for instance reading speed is 16, but disk is recorded on 24).
4. DVD drive is damaged or not connected properly.
Good Luck
Type of media settings might be the issue but making a
change for standard CD/DVD recording (it affects reading too) Issue can
be resolved. Right click on the CD/DVD drive (Usually D or E drive ) click
on properties and select and choose the recording option. Click the
enable CD recording for this drive option
Click
on apply and OK. Try again. You may try after reboot the computer. If
issue persist please post so we can think about some alternate
solutions.
Yes does not read DVD-R because if your LS50 Labeled like this (DVD/CD-RW) means that can read only all DVD Disc and cannot write on DVD blank only CD blank.
You can burn only on the blank CD-RW or any blank CD.
