How do I unlock the cap locks on my dell d531

Can be one of three things:

Power not adequate enough for laptop - You can purchase a new power adapter relatively cheap from eBay for around $10.00. It may have been surged and will not allow the battery to charge or allow enough power to start the computer.

Bad battery - Take the battery out of the laptop and try it without. if it works, replace the battery or use without it.

Bad screen (inverter) - The inverter can be damaged. This can be caused by wear and tear, being dropped or other. The inverter is like a lamp that sits behind the screen. Take a flash light and place it directly into the screen to see if there is indeed a picture back there (will be very dim). If so, replace the inverter (difficult) or replace the screen (simple). Easier diagnosis would be to connect another monitor and see if it comes on (instead of the flashlight method).

Try reseating the RAM module(s) then see if the issue goes away. If no change, try them one at a time.

The light under the Caps key must have burned out. Take your laptop to a Dell service center and get it repaired.
