Confused with Model of Tom-tom ect.

Hello, I am extremely confused with the model of Tom-Tom I have. It was a gift. I have had many issues since the day I turned it on, looping, corrupt file errors, messages can't save files. Can not link USB ect. The information found on label as below, Tom-tom XL N14644 Canada 310 (4EG0.001.00) I have read through posts and see there are others also confused. Please can you id what version I should reference on the Tom-tom sight. The software is corrupt on this unit from the factory and it limps along with error messages as noted. I am at the point thinking of just putting it in the garbage. This unit has been a huge disappointment Rgds George

Do you mean on a ONE XL, XLS, or XL 330S? Do you mean simple deletion of history, or actual files on the device?

For deleting history, you can go into the preferences menu and Reset the Device back to Factory Settings. Say that you're sure 2x and its all cleared.

For more advanced deletion of files...

If you have the USB cord, connect it to your computer. Download and install the TomTom HOME software and register your device. From there, you can access the contents of your device and download new data or delete old files.

What are you trying to delete?

I to had this same problem. I just about pulled my hair out. The way I fixed mine was to use Tom Tom Home to operate the Tom Tom. It was able to get past the loop and finish the initial set up. I then unhooked it from the computer and it was working by itself.

my tomtom worked well the other day. have not use it for 5 days. try to turn it on today, does not work. try recharging for 2 hrs still the same, does not turn on. please help

Came apart eventually, click action!
Surface mount USB was a little tricky to remove, got there in the end and resoldered new part on.
If a Usb cable is inserted awkwardly the internal pins can be easily bent and damaged, rendering your device useless, good job i have experience with removing Usb's.

Apparently you do not have the user manual for your Tom Tom.

You have not stated the model name of your Tom Tom.

Therefore, all I can do is direct you to the Tom Tom home page:
https://www.tomtom.com

On the home page, you should see the link to Support, located near the top of the page.

Click or tap on Support. You then should see the link to User Manuals. Click or tap on that link.

Then you will land on the User Manuals pages (more than one.) You will need to find the link for your model Tom Tom (look through the User Manuals pages), choose it, and follow the on-screen information to download the correct manual (probably a PDF document - Adobe Acrobat Reader software needed - free) and save it to your computer. Note: If you do not own a computer, ask a relative or friend if you can use their computer to download and print the manual. If you need to do that, I recommend you give the relative or friend a ream of printer paper as a "thank you." You may also wish to purchase a black printer ink cartridge (make sure you know the manufacturer and ink number used) as a "thank you" gift, as well.

My tom tom keeps switching off as tho out of power even tho plugged in. the charger gets extremely hot as does the wire, any suggestions? it is about 3 years old

You need to plug your TOM TOM into a PC with Internet connection and go to the tomtom web site: www.tomtom.com
You will need a usb cable that has the "mini" usb standard connector that plugs into the TOM TOM unit. It should update automatically, but you will need a TomTom Home account (free) created. Then you can download the latest updates that should clear up the power issues. Otherwise, get a new power cord as they do wear out with daily use. -Greg

Can not update, cause pndnavigator file error

I have been trying to get a free update and not having much success. Can you please help me?
I bought my tom tom about 6 mts agow and am having trouble finding places as the tom tom is directing me the wrong way because of road changes. I thought the update would help me. But can't get the right programe I am confused.....

Hi Tom, I think the clicking you are hearing is the board jumping into and out of defrost. You can test it your self by shorting L1 to test on the board. If it goes into defrost and jumps right back out (another click) it's probably the board. Unplug the harness and measure the continuity between 2 and 3 on the disconnect plug. On the Rx 1 scale you should read 20 to 40 ohms. If you have that the heater and T stat are ok. If not then go after the heater and T stat. The heater should ohm out at about 26.5 ohms. When you do the resistance checks on 2 and 3 make sure to unplug it from the board and have the power off. I believe it is a yellow and white/blk wire. Catriver

Yes the battery in your TOM TOM needs to be replaced. You can ship it to TOM TOM or go to there site and put the service request in for it. Hopefully it might be under warrenty still

what was it you need your product code for?
You brought new maps, that need a product code to install?

Now tomtom say you need to buy new maps to get a new product code?

I have a similar problem also. I bought a new unit with speed cams installed, the software advised to update the unit, on completion of the update it removed all the speed cams!!! tom tom said it was a bug in the update and to wait till now 26/10/07 for the fix. I have tried to download the fix, but this crashes at 99% install. and advises an error on my E drive which is the tom tom. suggest you try as my card may also be faulty, this may correct your fault
