I work as a truck driver on a small fleet of 7 vehicles in the midlands UK

3 of us have Tom Toms, the others have medion, navman or garmin.

ALL the tom tom users have been experiencing GPS problems this week ( june 21 onwards ) whilst the rest of us have seen no change in GPS satelite availability.

In addition, a friend who uses a TOM TOM One XL in another part of the UK has also had same problems.

Its a TOM TOM problem generally it seems, and NOT your particular piece of kit.

I went to find a solution in regards to my problem. I saw that most of the solutions were to update my programs on my Tomtom. Works like new again.

Thanks!

SOURCE: Why is my gps losing its signal

Try connecting it to the computer and running an update from TomTom Home, there is a GPS fix that might help. Obviously the TomTom needs clearence to see the satalites in the sky otherwise try a hard reset with a pen in the bottom.

Loses GPS signal and never reconects. I can be driving along and it loses signal and fails to to regain even if I switch off and on again Aparantly it is poor gps conection so wont connect but this happens...

A few things that cause drop out.

Poor vicinity for a strong signal
A low battery ***** must be fully charged The DC is only maintenance charging and eventually goes flat.
A damaged SIIRF CHIP caused by starting the engine whilst the GPS is plugged in.
A failked fuse to keep battery charged for maintenance in the DC charge unit.

Try recharging battery( or replacing it if 2 years or more of age)

My garmin nuvi 200w sat nav keeps losing the gps signal. I've done a manual reset and used the webupdater to ensure the software is up to date but still it keeps losing the gps signal

There are a few options for you...
1. Check to see under what kind of conditions the GPS loses it's signal. If there are tall buildings, is a cloudy day etc or even the position of the GPS in the car (does it have a clear sight of view of the sky)... In the latter case, you could change the position of the GPS where it gets a clear view of the sky. For Cloudy days, better have a map ready or preplan the route using mapquest/googlemaps, as nuvi 200 series is especially notorious for these type of situations. For tall building problems, what I do is (c330, not nuvi), just tap the route displayed on the top before the signal gets lost and memorize the next few upcoming turns. Or avoid downtown (where those huge skyscrapers are)
2. If you have enabled WAAS setting in the settings menu (it should be somewhere under "GPS mode", disbale/uncheck it and use the normal GPS mode. WAAS may provide you a more accurate position, but at the expense of some avaialble satellites.

3. Or your GPS may have a genuine problem, then your only recourse is to call Garmin and talk to them. Here's the contact info:
Support North America

Good Luck. Personally I would avoid the 200 series and go with the 3xx, 6xx or even better the 7xx series (if you need all the bells & whistles)
