Are you sure there isn't anything "unusual" being used by the USB port, such as a wireless mouse, or fancy keyboard, etc?

Try reinstalling the motherboard drivers, maybe something is wrong with the USB controller.

  • Anonymous Jun 07, 2009

When you bought the PC there may have been some disks with it. One of them should say mother drivers/ motherboard utilities, something like that. If you have a disk like that, you can open the Control Panel, select 'software' and then look through the list for the driver that is on the disk. Deintall it, then insert the disk and install the drivers again. That should fix the problem.

If you don't have any disks, please post your computer and if possible motherboard model and brand. I will find them for you.

    I hope this helps,
    Yannick.

My laptop Dell Inspiron 1200 does not recognise my phillips cdrw dvd cdd5263 drive

Follow the following instructions:

1.) Start Menu
2.) Right-click My Computer and click on properties.
3.) At the tabs at the top, go to hardware.
4.) Click on device manager.

Once the window opens any device inside or connected to the computer will be under the respective groups. Anything unknown to the computer will have a little exclamation mark next to the icon. On most computers, if there are any the groups will already be expanded.

Once you've found the dvd drive that isn't recognised, update the driver by right clicking on the device -> update driver.

You do have to be connected to the internet but it sometimes searches the computer for the right driver. Hope this helped

All USB POrts work fine. It is the device. It was tried in 3 or 4 different PC...

Try these steps to reinitialize your usb ports on your pc

1. Unplug ALL USB devices connected to the computer. If you are using a USB mouse and keyboard, temporarily use the older type PS/2 devices if you have them, if you don't then just leave them connected.

2. Hold down the windows key and press r

3. Type devmgmt.msc into the run menu and press ok

4. Click on the + sign next to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers

5. You might need another mouse to do this if you have a usb mouse.. I recommend you get a ps2 connector mouse which goes into the green round connector in the back of your pc.

6. Right click and uninstall first the usb root hubs. all of them then uninstall the rest of the devices you see under Universal serial bus controllers

7. Ones you have uninstalled everything you should see the Universal serial bus controllers there at all.

8. Now go ahead and restart your pc.

9. Ones you have restarted the pc your usb ports will reinstall in a moment stand by while it installs all of them. If you get warning messages click ok or continue installation.

10. Now go ahead and plug the usb devices back in. Install software if required, all usb devices if not faulty or broken should work now. Also note the error code if you get one?

This solution doesn't fix all usb problems so if you have a yellow ! mark there and device status reports a error code. Then it might not be a problem with your usb ports.

Windows XP SP3 will not recognize the printer is connected.

It could be the cable, but most likly it is a damaged driver. try uninstalling the printer and all the drivers then reboot and resinstall it. You could also run "sfc /scannow" to see if any system files are damaged.
