I have a Sherwood Audio/Video Receiver Model RD-6105 that keeps cutting off after 30 sec in use i had it for about 2 years can you tell me what's wrong or how to fix this ?

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

My Sherwood RD-6105 shuts off if I turn it up past 28 or 29 db (which isn't very loud). I'm using it in Dolby Digital mode. It even happens when I use it with my components that are analog. This just...

It's acting as if a short or near-short exists on the amp outputs at medium levels.

Disconnect one of your speakers at a time and try it. Make sure your speaker wires are tight and not shorting to anything and all channels have 6-ohms or more load.

No signal while watching a dvd

You may be experiencing a copy guard protection, there are some products on the web that may help you fix this problem. I would recommend a product called GoDVD. You can look for it on the web. This device will eliminate any copy guard that your DVD is putting out and allow you to watch your DVD’s on your television.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
