My Sherwood RD-6105 shuts off

It's acting as if a short or near-short exists on the amp outputs at medium levels.

Disconnect one of your speakers at a time and try it. Make sure your speaker wires are tight and not shorting to anything and all channels have 6-ohms or more load.

3 out of 5 of my speakers aren't working. They stopped working after listening to loud music. I believe it might be the output transistors. Can anyone help?

Sounds like the transistors in amp died due to too much stress. Off to repair center ...

I have a Sherwood Audio/Video

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

What is the remote control code for Sherwood

Sorry there is no code for the sherwood receiver. You will need to do a code search in the manual here is how.

SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE

If your home entertainment device does

not respond to the remote control after

trying all of the codes listed for your

brand, or if your brand is not listed at all,

try searching for your code.

For example, after trying all of the

codes for your TV, you still cannot get

the remote control to operate your TV,

then:

1. Turn on your TV.

2. On the remote control, press TV

once. Then press and hold Setup

until the TV key blinks twice, then

release Setup.

3. Enter 9 - 9 - 1. The TV key will

blink twice.

4. Aim the remote control at the the

TV and slowly alternate between

pressing Power and TV.

Stop when the TV turns off. A

working code has been found.

NOTE: In the search mode, the

remote control will send IR codes

from its library to the selected device,

starting with the most popular code

first.

5. Press Setup once to lock in the

code. The TV key will blink twice.

6. To search for the codes of another

device, repeat steps 1 to 5, but

substitute the AUX key for the auxiliary
device you are searching for.

Or go to the manual here.

No signal while watching a dvd

You may be experiencing a copy guard protection, there are some products on the web that may help you fix this problem. I would recommend a product called GoDVD. You can look for it on the web. This device will eliminate any copy guard that your DVD is putting out and allow you to watch your DVD’s on your television.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Comes on and goes right back off

one of three things could be happening:
1. the most likely problem is that the impedance in the speakers is too high, causing a short
2. a faulty mechanical relay, there are two - 1 on the PSU and 1 on the main chip. the relay on the main chip may be faulty
3. there could be a problem with one or both of the main capacitors. the two caacitor responsible are huge and hard to miss you can order them from jay car pretty cheap!

Sherwood Rd-6505 hisses from both speakers

The soft hiss that you are hearing from both speakers of your Sherwood RD-6505 may be caused by a few different factors:
  1. Ground loop: A ground loop occurs when there are two or more devices connected to a common ground, causing a voltage difference between the grounds. This voltage difference can create interference, resulting in a hissing sound.
  2. Faulty cable or connection: Check all of the connections and cables between your audio source and the Sherwood RD-6505. Make sure that they are plugged in securely and that the cables are in good condition. A faulty cable or connection can create interference and result in a hissing sound.
  3. Amplifier issue: The hissing sound may also be caused by an issue with the amplifier circuitry in the Sherwood RD-6505. If this is the case, you may need to take the device to a professional for repair.
  4. Power issue: If the power supply of the Sherwood RD-6505 is unstable, it can also result in a hissing sound. Check the power supply and ensure that it is providing the appropriate voltage.
If you have checked all of these potential causes and are still experiencing the hissing sound, it may be best to contact a professional for further diagnosis and repair.

Sherwood RX-2030R receiver within minutes after powering on blows fuse F103. What is this fuse protecting as something is obviously failing. Trying to determine what needs to be fixed.

The service manual is here Manual: RX2030R SHERWOOD (archive.org) Moving on, are you sure the 120/240 voltage select is set correctly? That fuse is not listed but could be one of the fuses shown in the schematic on the voltage selector board. You need to check the diodes that are after the transformer to see if one or more have failed. Usually the thermal fuse in the transformer will fail and none of the other ones will. You need to check the transformer for shorts on both the primary and secondary side. You need to see if any of the filter capacitors have failed.

Sherwood RD 6506 - centre speaker not working

Hi, If the speakers work during the test, then the issue might be with how surround sound is programmed on your tv. You should look into your sound settings with your tv's remote. Thank you.

I have Sherwood RA-1140 AM/FM Receiver Surround Sound, and the surround doesn't work. Can it be a fuse please?

Question edited for full make model (what it is). If the whole unit isn't working, yes, I could be a fuse. If only the surround sound isn't working, it is a wiring issue or a button issue, or an internal component failure. https://www.google.com/search?q=sherwood+ra-1140+service+manual ..

I plugged in headphones to sherwood reciver rd6506 and only one side works then plugged them into computer and both sides work, both speakers works when head phones are not plugged in

The head phone jack in the Sherwood receiver has dirty contacts. If the head phones work in another device, that proves there is nothing wrong with them. When phones are plugged in the Sherwood, shows s problem with the receiver. When the head phones are not plugged in and both external speakers come on, it means nothing regarding head phones. Contact cleaner could be used to fix the problem.
