I have removed a small peice of paper...I cannot see any other paper jams. I have replaced the ink cartridges, turned the printer on & off, re-started computer. The light persists in blinking orange, then green for a second (to taunt me I think!!) then blinking orange again. It will not print. Any suggestions appreciated.

Two flashes: Out of paper, paper jam or paper feed error
Replace the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam and press the RESUME/CANCEL
button.

Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, replace the paper in the printer
correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Four flashes: Empty ink tank
One of the ink tanks is empty. Replace it.

Six flashes: No print head installed
Install a print head.

Seven flashes: Defective print head
Remove and reinstall the print head.
Also, ensure that the protective tape has been removed. If reinstalling the print head
does not resolve the problem, replace it with a new one.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight
flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL
button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank
becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative to have the waste ink
tank replaced. Canon recommends to call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once
the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will be no longer
possible.

The printer may be running low on ink. If so replace the ink cartridges. to verify this take the print cartridges out and see if the same condition persists, then put them back.

If it is laser printer try replacing/refilling the toner cartridge.

Also find out whether any software monitoring utility is installed for the printer. In that case you can see the ink/toner levels.

Try reading the manual if you have that all with you, it may be helpful in pinpointig the problem. It may contain troubleshooting information for the particular printer.

Sometimes paper jam will be also indicated like this....If so remove the back cover and find out whether paper or peices of paper is there.

Printer is not responding

This is the error light page from the S520. Not sure about this, but probably the same on the S530. 8 Blinks means replace the ink absorber and reset the counter. I think the ink absorber can be gotten at from the bottom, BUT NOT SURE. Try this at your own risk!

7.1 Service Mode Operation
1) With the printer turned off, hold down the RESUME button and press the POWER
button (the green indicator lights and the desired service function can be selected).
2) While holding down the POWER button, let go of the RESUME button before pressing
the RESUME button again twice in succession. Then let go of both RESUME and
POWER buttons.
(At each press of the RESUME button, the indicator toggles between orange and
green.)
3) During printer initialization, the green indicator blinks. When the green indicator
stops blinking and remains on, press the RESUME button the specified number of
times to execute the desired service function, as listed below.
(At each press of the RESUME button, the indicator toggles between orange and
green.)
Press Indicator Function
0 times Green Power off (Even if there is no print head mounted, the
carriage will return to the home position and lock.)
1 time Orange Service/factory test printout (Including ink sensor check)
2 times Green EEPROM information printout
3 times Orange EEPROM initialization
4 times Green Clears the waste-ink counter (S750/S520)
Waste-ink counter settings (S900/820) (See page 2-34)
5 times Orange Destination (model) setting
After reaching this service function, press the RESUME
button the number of times specified below to set the
destination.
Setting
0 times BJ F900 BJ F890
1 times S900 S820 BJ F700 BJ F500
2 times BJ F890PD S750 S520
3 times S820D
Note: pressing more than 3 times has no effect.
6 times Returns to the function select stage (S750/520)
6~9 times Not used for servicing (S900/820)
More than Green Returns to the function select stage (S900/820)
10 times
4) After selecting a service function, press the POWER button. The green indicator
lights and the service function will be executed. (After each function is executed, the
printer returns to the service function select stage.)

Canon s520 problem

I solve mine (4 Yellow Flash + 1 Green) by pushing on the white gear, located at the end right inside, where the cartridges are cleaning. This help the movement of the gear, it was stuck or gem. Do this when you just turning on the printer, then you ear the cycle noise, Your fingers will sense the movement of the gear. Tips: Push the cartridges block to the left to let you enough space to put your hand inside. Now it work normally.

My canon s520

The user guide for that product says that 7 flashes means the printhead is defective and that you should contact Canon's customer care. If you've recently replaced the print cartridge(s), try putting the old one(s) back in. If the printhead is truly defective, there may be no choice but to contact Canon or replace the printer.
