Kenmore 106.55242400 ice maker knocking noise

Ice maker started making a knocking sound (coming from the box where the motor is). Would be trying to dump the ice & then eventually dump ice. Then started taking longer period of knocking noise before dump ice. then finally just makes knocking noise non-stop and no ice. Any idea what part is broken? If so, how to fix?

Most likely you need a new ice maker, one thing that could do this is the white arms that spin around when dumping the ice, sometimes one of the arms bend and jam the ice maker and you'll hear that knocking soundthe arm gets bent, the ice cube gets stuck because the arm can't push it out,,it stops the motor from spinning through it's full cycle and damages it but this is just a guess from something i've seen happen but most likely you need a new ice maker, one other i've seen is the metal arm that you can lift up to shut off the ice maker gets knocked out of the hole it slides into.if you pop off the white cover and get a jumper wire and stick it into the h and t holes you can jump start the ice maker.http://appliantology.org/gallery/image/659-manual-harvest-on-a-whirlpool-modular-ice-maker/

these are the white arms i was talking about, they spin and push the cubes out,if one of the arms get bent and jam the ice maker it will make that noise and after a while it will damage the ice maker motor if you jump out the t and h holes with a jumper wire it might help you find out why it's not working correctly.

It is probably just your water inlet solenoid being activated. Not to be concerned.

SOURCE: Kenmore Coldspot w/Ice Maker Not Making Ice

hi LOP7,
In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck [email protected]

Kenmore refrigerator making high pitch noise top front

could be the ice maker or the evaporator fan motor.you can try lifting the arm up on the ice maker and see if it stops, this will shut off the ice maker.also when you open the freezer door to lift the arm on the ice maker the evap fan motor should start when you open the door, you should hear it blowing around,is this the noise you hear?these are the two things i can think of that could make a noise up top,if not it could be the compressor or the condenser fan motor but these are down the bottom back of machine but still could be the problem,if the ice maker and evap fan motor both in the freezer are ok pull out the machine and remove the bottom back panel and check to see if the noise is coming from there where the condenser fan motor and compressor are, you're going to have to do some detective work to find the noise, hope this helps you out.

How do I stop the loud knocking noises coming from my refridgerator?

Pull the fridge away from the wall and inspect the compressor. Your description sounds like the compressor is hitting something. It is rubber mounted and usually can be pushed away from whatever it is hitting. You do not want to jamb something to stop the noise, as the compressor needs to move freely. Many compressors shake during start up and shutdown, and this is considered normal. Abnormal if the compressor hits something during this movement.

"you are right that cleaning under your refrig wont get rid of a "compressor knocking" sound. what it might do is to lower the amount of heat from the condenser coils and thus cause less pressure and stress on the compressor making it run easier and less likely to bang or knock when shutting off.
if your coils were very plugged with lint and you have cleaned them, that will help but it wont "fix" the problem.
inside the compressor is a motor and a pump, the motor is supported by 3 springs and they can stretch or break causing the motor to hit one side of the black outer can and cause the noise.
that may be too technical, but its not something that can be repaired without replacing the compressor, at a cost of 700-800 bucks. most would not pay this as its not worth putting that amount of money into an older refrig."

"think that you are hearing either a freon related sound or even just the sounds of the unit going thru defrost.
how often do you hear the noise? just maybe once a day or is it everytime the unit shuts off?
either way i would rule out the ice maker and water system as when the "shut off arm" is up then it is off and wont make any noise, or ice.
keep the i/m arm up and then listen for the next day or two and try to narrow down when it makes the noise and frequency you hear it and then get back to me.
it may not even be a problem, just normal operating sounds that cant be changed."

Ice maker not making ice. motor is making noise,

Hi, Reach in and see if you can feel ant ice laying on top of the ice maker fingers that might be jamming the ice maker. The motor making a noise is why I suggest this. If you can remove the ice maker and look, it would be better. Another option is to pop the ice maker head cover off and see if the drive wheel is trying to turn or maybe even broke.
Please let me know what you find so I can assist you further.

GE Profile making knocking noises at different times

I have the GE profile Refrigerator with ice maker in the refrigerator compartment. Mine was knocking loudly for long periods of time, so I finally removed the icemaker by removing the side panel in the icemaker compartment held with 1 phillips head screw, disconnecting the electrical plug (unclip), pulling the tab of the icemaker down (on top) and sliding it toward the door, thus removing it. There was ice frozen in the motor compartment that was the problem. I let it thaw out and re-installed. All was OK after that..

Just above the tray that holds the ice cubes is a wire bar. If the bar is down, it will make ice. If the bar is up, it will stop making ice. When there is enough Ice in the tray, when the bar comes downm, it will hit the ice. If the bar is not completely down, no ice will be made.

I bet the bar is stuck, or you don't have a water supply to make ice (or it's plugged - de-ice the freezer).
