The "button" is actually just a plastic extension for the actual switch on the printed circuit board. You will have to dismantle the camera to gain access to the board and then use a DMM to test the switch contacts.

Olympus C-8080, everything works except the shutter release. I press the shutter button, auto focus is done but "no shutter release". Any ideas? Derek

Does the shutter button feel like it's contacting twice as you press it in? if not, the spring disk in the switch is split; It has happened to me on other cameras on several occasions. Solution is to replace the switch.

If it works otherwise I would suspect the ribbon cable. They can get loose, or the contacts can get oxidized. I don't know specifically about the c-8080, on some cameras the contacts are tinned, which can oxidize. In that case it's a matter of gently rubbing the contact strip with a paper eraser until the contacts become shiny. Of course, that means disassembling the camera ;)

You've probably retired this camera or don't have it anymore but in case you still have it, I hope this helps a bit.

Olympus C-8080 sticks at f8.0

You're confusing aperture with shutter speed but your camera is operating normally. The C-8080's smallest aperture is f8 and cannot go further.

The ranges available are:-

Wide: F2.4, F2.5, F2.8, F3.2, F3.6, F4.0, F4.5, F5.0, F5.6, F6.3, F7.1, F8.0
Tele: F3.5, F4.0, F4.5, F5.0, F5.6, F6.3, F7.1, F8.0

Shutter speeds are:-

15, 13, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3.2, 2.5, 2, 1.6, 1.3, 1, 1/1.3, 1/1.6, 1/2, 1/2.5, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/8, 1/10, 1/13, 1/15, 1/20, 1/25, 1/30, 1/40, 1/50, 1/60, 1/80, 1/100, 1/125, 1/160, 1/200, 1/250, 1/320, 1/400, 1/500, 1/640, 1/800, 1/1000, 1/1250, 1/1600, 1/2000, 1/2500, 1/3200, 1/4000 sec

Blurred Images with Olympus E520

When operating any digital camera, the camera tries to capture the best focus and exposure for that particular scene. By pressing the shutter button half-way down, the focus and exposure is being set. There will be a green circle on the upper left hand corner of the screen, then your camera is ready to take the picture. Slowly depress the shutter the rest of the way down to take the picture.

Olympus OM-4 Shutter Release Button Stuck

  1. First ry to reset the Self Timer lever.
  2. Try to change the aperture.
  3. Try to unscrew the lens
  4. Open the film chamber slightly (just to loosen any lever that has got stuck)
One of these operations would dislodge any normal lever jam. If these fail to solve the problem, take it to a repair shop.

Olympus mju zoom 140 35mm camera. shutter has started clicking as if taking when zooming (in or out)even when not pressing the shutter button...?

This is like to be the zoom motor playing up.
If the camera is new[1 year or less] return it.
A repair is not a likely option.

Shutter button stuck

Some have used compressed air, blown directly into the button. this should dislodge anything that is holding the button down. Also check and see if the button is cocked in the body, you can pry it back into position and it should pop back up. It is a 2 position switch, first detent is to hold focus and bottom out is shutter release

Shutter Problem

I had an Olympus C-3000 this same type of sympton happened to me. I sent it off to Olympus to be fixed (via local camera dealer). When it came back, after about 10 shots, it failed again the same way. Back to Olympus a second time. Came back and failed again after about 10 shots. This time dealer worked with Olympus and I was given a new reburbished camera (same model). This whole thing took about 4 months. Time frame was a couple of years ago.
