My compressor only builds up to 40 psi and keeps running until turned off. While running air comes out of the air filter attachment. When off it stays at 40 psi. I replaced a broken hose earlier. Suggestions? Thanks

SOURCE: Craftsman 30 Gal. 150 PSI Not building air over 45lbs

The compressor valve may have a faulty gasket or seal, and maybe leaking air internally. Or the compressor might be going downhill. You can try to replace the valve seal and see if that makes a difference, otherwise you need to replace the compressor.

SOURCE: air compressor air intake blows out hot air and wont build up psi

its either a reed valve broke or corroded beyond function.remove the head and look at the plates.look at the piston rings while your in there sounds like its just worn out,but i just rebuilt mine for 80 bucks thats all the gaskets plates and piston with sleeve.the repair takes about an hour.if you do tackle this yourself remember the fan for the air cooling may be reverse thread.try not to break it.noone mentioned this to me but i got lucky and tried the other way before i got serious about removing it.good luck

I have a Mikita MAC2400 air compressor that recently stopped working correctly--it cannot build pressure over 40psi and the motor continues to run non-stop.

This could possibly be, you have some water from condensation buildup inside the tank, liquid does not compress. Before this next step make sure the tank is to 0 psi! Now, there should be a relief valve Wingnut on the bottom. Loosen the wing nut and drain as needed. Then retighten the wingnut (Do not overtighten). Plug the compressor in and try it. My second suggestion is, the psi adjustment pressure knob could be faulty replace as needed!

My bostitch 6 gal compressor keeps running , and running , even goes into a higherpitch motor noise. can i check something ? or clean something to fix it ?

is it building up any pressure on the gauge
if the pressure recorded is around 40 psi or less , replace the failed poppet/reed valves in the compressor head
if it goes to 100 psi then replace the automatic controller for the motor

I have an older model Sears Craftsman air compressor, 1 hp, 100 psi, twin cylinder. Model 106.154541. The compressor comes on fine, but when the pressure gets to 40 psi or so the belt starts to squeal,...

Could be the bearing in the pully wheel rides on,,not the belt,,,While its running spray some belt dressing on belt to see if its the belt,,,while running get a can of wd-40 with long nosel attachment and spray the armeture that tures pully when you spray it if its the bearing it will stop makeing noise momentarly, than come back again than as you spray it it will stop as long as you spray. BE CAREFUL. Bearings wear out when old,,,like us!

Wont build up pressure above 40 psi

is the compressor cutting off or does it just continue to keep running and never gets above 40 psi?

Compressor will only build pressure to 75 psi and stop and compressor keeps running what could be wrong

If you can hear air bleeding off through the air filter when you turn it off then the check valve has failed on the compressor discharge to tank line and cannot overcome the tank pressure. If there is no air coming out through the air filter than the intake and dischare valves have become weak or are broken/not seating. Post your findings, I wil see if i can help I worked on compressors for 5+ years

The compressor reaches 40 psi and won't build pressure past 40 psi it just keeps running. checked for leaks and could not find anything the reeds are working fine.

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. There has got to be a leak, check the line coming from the pump to the tank, you may have to remove it to check. I find this is often over looked. Thanks for choosing FixYa...John
