Sometimes when you drop a camera the mirror will lock itself protecting the screen. If your screen isn't broke and it is just your power button. I would see if you have a small camera repair guy locally. IMO, they will be able to fix the problem in half the time and do it a lot cheaper than Nikon

Shutter button fell off Sony Cyber-shot DsC-W5 Camera

I bought a "for parts" dscw50 off ebay & unscrewed the side panels; this allowed me to remove the whole top panel (entire silver piece) & exhange it with the one on my own camera which I had broken the shutter button off of. Works fine now.

Everything works....but hit shutter button & it goes dead.

Hold the power button in the ON position for 10 seconds, then release (obviously making sure the batteries are in first). This forces the camera to do a full reset - you will have to set the time etc when it restarts.

Hope this helps, it worked for me...

Everything else works but will not take picture

Whilst there may be another fault, replacing the battery cover is a good start and you need to eliminate all possible causes.

These cameras also only reliably run on Lithium batteries.

I've seen many sets of fresh alkaline batts not work, even though they show full power.

Lithiums are more expensive, but they last much longer than several sets of alkalines, which ends up being far greater $ value and you are not constantly changing batts.

Worth a try.
