This has been sitting for awhile (a few years actually). First while we were moving out to hook it up and use it again, someone opened the side cover and knocked the spring off casuing the rollers to nearly fall out. Once I get everything re-aligned and back together, I tried plugging it in and turning it on. I get the messages that the toners were all low. I know they were more then half full the last time I had used this printer, so I took them out back and tried shaking them. After putting them back in, still getting the same warning, but now it is telling me the paper tray is open. This is a 5430DL and there is only one tray on it. Is there a sensor I need to clean? and once I get that problem taken care of, what about the toner? Does it harden and become unusable after sitting for such a long time? Tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
AS for toner use OEM not third party.replace them. as for the paper draw check the sensor and tab that accurate the sensor telling the machine the draw is closed. might be broken or the sensor got hit when you re-installed the roller.

SOURCE: Not noticing paper
I took an envelope, folded in the end to triple its thickness and placed it in the middle of the paper tray underneath the very last page. This pushed the center of the paper up more and it had no problem detecting or getting hold of the paper. Have to be sure the paper supply tray is full though. When it gets to the last five or seven pages it has difficulty again. It's a nontechnical fix, but it seems to work.

Hi Connie,
If you take out all the toners you will find a contact at the bottom
where the chip from the cartridges touch , these three springs work
loose.
If you notice them loose, you need to take the black clip out split it and solder them
back on; that will sort the problem out.
