Thank you for your suggestion but this is not the problem. Heard there is a conflict with Adobe Flash Player but don't know the solution. Regards Karen

Sounds like your screen saver is set to a very short period, like 1 minute or less.

Try this, Right-Click on the Desktop Wallpaper (behind the icon on the desktop, NOT on an icon), then select Properties.

When that dialog window opens, Left Click on the Screen Saver tab at the top of the window.
This will select that page of options.

On the Screen Saver page, about in the middle of the page you should see

Wait: (and a box with a number in it) minutes (check box) On resume, password protect.

I suspect that the number in the box is small, like 1 or 2, try changing this to something like 15 minutes.

Now this solution assumes your on Windows XP, this is done slightly different on Vista, please inform me if this doesnt help you!

Hope this helps you, Good Luck :)

Dell inspiron one touch screen stuck in diagnostic mode

HI,
You were correct in pressing ctrl+f11 but perhaps you did not press at the correct time. If in following these first two steps you do not get the recovery console, it may not have been installed on your computer.

1 Turn on the computer.
2 When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.
3 In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, clickRestore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlightRestore, and then press <Enter>.
4 When a warning message appears stating that all data will be lost, click Confirm, or press <Tab> to highlight Confirm and then press <Enter>.

The Progress window will appear. Once the restore process starts, Dell PC Restore by Symantec usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes to finish.

When the restore process is complete, the following message will appear:
The system recovery process was successful.
5 Click Finish or press <Tab> to highlight Finish and then press <Enter> to restart the computer.
The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.
Thanks.

I have a Dell Dimension 24000 that has been in storage for a year. I recently tried to boot it up so I could find a couple of files. It starts booting up; windows logo appears and shows things are loading...

try starting in safe mode.

when you power on the PC, start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.

this will give you the option to start in safe mode and can possibly let you find out why you cannot start up.

if it does start this way, you should at least be able to retrieve the files you were looking for.

Ethernet driver for dell dimension 4600

Hi stefyboy - Below is a link where you can download your driver. After you get to the page just make sure it says Windows XP as the operating system. Then scroll down and click on the + next to where it says network. You want the intel 10/100 driver. I've included a few a ways to install it. If your kinda new to this the easiest is the download to desktop method and just remember where it unzipped it to, you can always move it to a driver directory where you can keep all your drivers for the future.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, DO NOT RATE YET. Just add a comment letting me know what happened and I'll be glad to assist you further. Thanks.
