SOURCE: A460 lens error, restart camera

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Same problem here - the forum posting on the SD 500 seems to be a bit more active (for the same problem).

I have been trying to get some images or a service manual for the SD 700, with no luck...

SOURCE: My lens wont fully extend

My sister's camera was having the same trouble and after trying a few different things, i came across a solution that fixed her camera. Her error said "lense error, restart camera."

I held down the shutter button for a few seconds, then i held down the power button as well. I tried it once or twice and then it worked. I hope this helps!

SOURCE: lens wont retrack/ camera wont turn on...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

SOURCE: Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

The camera turns on then shuts back off again

hat type of problem is usually associated with a lens extend error.

It is usually caused by weak batteries or dropping the camera.

Keep your eye on the LCD screen when you turn the camera on.
Do you see any type of error message?

Now turn the camera on again and help the lens extend by gently pulling on the lens as it extends.
Does the camera stay on when you do that?

Lens Error!

In My case, the lens was coming out part way a start up and pulling back in without camera coming on. Some times the screen would stay a dark blue and could not be shut off. Ensure batteries are new or remove and replace existing. Lens will come out part way and retract when the battery door is opoened and closed. Press "on" button and as the lens comes out touch and hold the lens, with a finger placing pressure on the side of the lens. The lens will stay out. With camera upside down blow into the sliding mechanisms of the lens. Grip the furthest most extened lens with two fingers and pull the lens all the way out with steading pressure. The pressure should be equivalent to lifting one to two pounds of bread with two fingers. Perform this with the camera upside down so that any dirt particles can fall out. A slight rocking (side to side motion) of the lens may help. Once fully extended, open and close the battery door. The lens should retract. Turn on the camera. A couple of ideas relatd to this problem 1) If the concentric circles of the lens are not even, this could indicate a large grain of sand. After lens is extended or partialy extended push the lens on the side where the largest gap is while the camera is upside down. This may provide a larger gap for the grain to fall out. 2) Dirty camera case. I turned my camera case upside down over a piece of white paper and was amazed at the particles of sand that fell out. I turned the case inside out and completely brushed and vacuumed the case.

Samsung L730 wont extend lens and dosent turn on right

Met the same problem. I disassembled camera and found a lot of sand in lens transmission. I couldn't move lens even by hand. It was strongly jammed. I had to disassemble lens block completely to remove all sand. Now camera fully functional.

Wont turn on but light is blinking

Are there any error messages on the LCD display?

Will the camera lens stay out when the camera is turned on?

Can you still take a photo/flash/sound without seeing the photo?

If the camera will not turn on even with a fresh set of batteries it could have a system or lens error in the camera.

a possible lens jamb when closed and the green led on top comes on then shuts off after the lens attemps to extend but cant.

Camera beeps loud 3 times and shuts right off!!

sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!

It wont turn on, And the zoom is extended.

I had exactly the same problem. Lens stayed open, when powered on you get three beeps and nothing. I found when I pulled the lens out a little harder it gave a little click. When I powered on it worked perfectly.
