SOURCE: Lens not Extending

this problem is caused because that the lens servo can`t move the unit of lens. this menssage mean that the sistem don't go out the lens. You have to sincronise the mechanism of the lens, carefully disarm the unit and review that the gears are ok.

SOURCE: Hard to extend zoom

Hate to say it, but unless you have a bunch of experience with lens assemblies, your best bet would be to take it to a camera or photography shop to have them look at it. You need the right sized spanners and such for disassembly. There are also a number of considerations to be taken into account when reassembling them. They shouldn't charge for looking at it and can give you an idea as to what it would cost to have them fix it. From what you've told us, it sounds like it's gummed up and may just need to be cleaned.

The zoom creep is an easy fix for Canon. I really do not recommend trying to tighten it yourself, since that would void your warranty.
It is usually free to tighten the zoom ring.

When i turn my camera on it makes a grinding noise, displays an camera with red x

Power is fine, your case sounds like a jam or an obstruction by a foreign object in the lens (lodged between the extension barrels of the lens. This is an extreme situation and you need professional help, unless you are good at fixing things yourself.

Hi, my Nikon Coolpik S8100 camera lens seems to be stuck and not extending. When I turn the camera on, it makes a clicking sound and the lens does not come out. Please help!

try manually pulling on lens housing while powering on. if there is a grinding noise the gears are probably missing teeth.

My camera worked fine one day, then it was in my purse. When I went to use it the light was on and the screen said there was a lens error. Everytime I try to turn it on now it makes a grinding noise and...

Hope you purchased an extended warranty. I've had two Cannon's with the dreaded lens error. Probably what happened was that while it was in your purse, somehow the power button got pressed. The camera powered up, tried to extend the lens, then stripped the gears or broke whatever mechanism extends the lens. The sad part is that if it's not under warranty, it probably not worth dumping $100.00 + into fixing it. Too bad, it's a nice 8mp camera with some pretty good reviews. I feel your pain.

'zoom error' on olympus sp-560 uz

I had this problem and managed to fix it. The camera was dropped on a stone floor and the zoom error was present every time it was turned on. A ring or other piece of the lens was bent or damaged, in my non professional opinion. A profesional repair is my advice. However you may try my fix at YOUR OWN RISK.

Switch camera on, when zoom extends, but before it closes down due to zoom error, gently but firmly push lens back in. Drop batteries for camera to reset itself. Repeat, if necessary.

My camera now operates fully and when the lens extends it now no longer makes the slight grinding noise.

Good luck and remember at your own risk.

My Pentax Optio S7 has developped a fault. When I turn it on, the zoom pops out, the screen lights up but it makes a buzzing sound then the zoom retracts and it switches itself off.

The gearing for the lens has become damaged and the lens can no longer fully extend. As a result, the camera detects a fault when attempting to extend the lens and shuts itself off. The most frequent cause of this kind of damage is dropping the camera with the lens extended. Always used the wrist strap!

Unfortunately, there is no way to correct this at the consumer level for this camera. It is very compactly designed, and the lens is the hardest to get at. Even if you were able to get to it, you'd still need the replacement part for whatever has become damaged. You will need to return this for repairs - although with the price of this camera, buying a new one will probably be cheaper.
