Toro 42 In Deck 19 Hp Kohler Courage Twin Cam Zero Turn Mower Logo
Jeffrey Barth Posted on Aug 19, 2013

Toro 52" deck with 19hp kawasaki engine runs fine when not under a load, when blades are engaged the throttle constantly goes up and down. I am assuming it is a governor problem, and have made sure the spring is still intact. How do I go about troubleshooting the governor?

Im having similar issues with a Kawasaki FH680V (23 HP)

Ive changed the stator, regulator, and both ignition coils. My next guess is that it needs carburetor, but the cheapest I can find is like $170 on eBay, they are nearly $400 at the local mower repair shop.

Could also be a carburetor issue, remove air filter and make sure that its not clogged, even try running it for a short time under the same load. If problem persist tske it to rdpair shop bc there are several other issues it could

im no expert but had a similar problem with an old craftsman mower. the belt keeper which is an L shaped piece of hardware located at the back of the deck next to the idler pulley spindal. Also could be the deck is cockeyed and needs to be leveled or the wrong v-belt.

sounds like your electric clutch is prob bad check to make sure wires are not bare touching something, the clutches do go bad eventually like any other electrical part, disc the pigtail and try fuse, if it blows then I would consider a clutch

I have an LX 500 Toro riding mower new battery it starts and runs fine forward and backwards but when you engage the blades it kills it will not run

The wiring diagram shows safety circuit logic as; While brake OFF, operator must be in seat else kill engine. So I don't believe it's a safety circuit issue.

If it's not a safety circuit then most likely engine performance. The twin v cylinder engines can seemingly run ok on one cylinder until the load from the mower deck is applied and then they sputter and die.

To determine if this is the case, disconnect one spark plug wire and try to start. If it runs then reconnect the plug wire and disconnect the opposite cylinder plug wire. If it runs then it is firing on both cylinder and further troubleshooting is necessary.

If it fails to run with either plug wire removed then theres a dead cylinder, the cause of your issue.

I have a toro zeroturn mower motor starts up fine I can drive it around fine, but as soon as I engage the mower deck the motor will start running rough then stall out. why?

Could be there is an obstruction in the deck that is not allowing the blades to turn freely and stalling out the motor.

GOOD MORNING, I HAVE A D140 JOHN DEERE LAWN MOW,IT RUN WELL WHEN NOT MOWING BUT WHEN ENGAGED IT SLOW DOWN AS THOUGH IT HAS TO CATCH IT'S BREATH LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD

Make sure there isn't anything binding the deck belt or blades. Check the spindles for free movenent. If all that is good then it might be the linkage that is supposed to adjust the throttle when the engine is under load or it might be a carb issue...especially if you run ethanol gas in it.

Engine surge is usually caused by one of two things...
1) a lean condition. Not getting enough fuel.
2) throttle plate shaft in carb is worn. usually clears up when engine is put under a load. You can live with it or replace the carb

Engine runs fine til hot.

I think one of the intake valves, or a valve pushrod, is bent or warped. When the engine heats up, the metal expands and the valve starts sticking open. That would cause compression to be lost in one cylinder, reducing available power so things drag when you engage the blades. This would also causes air/fuel to be blown back through the intake. I think you'll need to take it to a small engine mechanic. Good luck! Please rate my solution if helpful, thanks.

Need diagram to replace blade belt for 19hp twin turbo cool mower

You have to post the model number from under seat. Not all Craftsman decks are the same. There are 38", 42", 46" w/3 blades, 46" w/ 2 blades, 52", etc.. Better yet, Get the model number under the seat (starts with 917) and go to... http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action Then enter the model #, hit search, then scroll down to Browse Subcomponent List and click on Mower Deck. There's your diagram.
