SOURCE: Hard Drive Fail

I don't know the specific error code. There is some information on wikipedia
You could try reformatting, which may or may not help, but the line at the bottom is: do you want to risk your data to a dodgy drive?

Computer will only start in safe mode hp cue root and hp help and restore are not working? what is the best resolution? hard drive failure?

I have included some directions from HP about using an embedded Hard drive test. This is done using the BIOS. Try this to rule out a hard drive problem. This is supposed to also repair some hard drive issues. Then, we can go from there.

Brian

Perform a hard drive self test Many computer problems are related to soft failures on the hard drive. The comprehensive portion of the HP Hard Drive Self Test repairs soft errors on the hard drive, but does not report the errors. After the test completes, be sure to restart the computer to determine if the test repaired any problems you are experiencing with your computer. To use the HP Hard Drive Self Test, follow the steps below. NOTE: If the notebook computer is configured with two hard drives, then it may be necessary to test each drive separately.
  1. If the notebook computer is running solely on battery power, plug the AC adapter into the notebook.
  2. Shut down the computer if it is running.
  3. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
  4. Press f10 when the HP/Compaq logo displays.
  5. After the BIOS Setup Utility displays, use the Right Arrow key to select the Diagnostics menu.
  6. Select HDD Self-Test options .
  7. Press enter to display a list of HDD/Self-Test options.
  8. Select Notebook Hard Drive and then press f10 to display an Estimated test time .
  9. Press f10 to continue. The Hard Drive Self Test executes a Quick test , a Comprehensive test, and a SMART test.
If any test fails , contact HP for instructions on how to order a replacement hard drive. If all of the tests pass, the hard drive is not damaged. As a rule, HP does not replace a hard drive that is under warranty if it does not fail the HP Hard Drive Self Test.

Won't boot up, Hard drive self test result #1-07 Fail

Hi there.
The hard drive has failed and you will need to replace it.
If the laptop is under a year old take advantage of the warranty and send it in to be repaired for free.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

When i boot up i get a message that my hard disk failure is immenent is there anyway to repair this problem

if you get a "Disk Controller Error" error messages that may occur before Windows XP or Windows 2000 is started. Imminent Hard Disk Failure This error may appear when the hard drive detects that it will fail or stop working sometime soon.
Backup Data Before Proceeding Although the notebook may continue to start Windows after displaying the message, it is advisable that you immediately backup your personal data from the PC by copying it to a Network Drive, CD, DVD or USB storage device. After completing the backup, use one of the following methods to resolve the error. Step 1: Test the Hard Drive Use the steps below to test the hard drive in a Notebook PC using the HP Hard Drive Self Test.
  1. Plug the AC Adapter into the Notebook PC.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 5 Seconds to turn off the PC.
  3. Press and hold the F10 key while you press the Power button to turn on the PC. Release the F10 key after text is displayed on the screen of the PC.
  4. After the BIOS Setup Utility is displayed, use the Right Arrow key to select the Tools menu.
  5. Select Hard Drive Self Test
  6. Press the Enter key to start the test.
The Hard Drive Self Test will provide an Estimated test time . A Quick test, a Comprehensive test, and a SMART test will execute when the Enter key is pressed. If any test fails , order a replacement hard drive. If all of the tests pass, the hard drive is not damaged.

If all tests pass , press the power button to restart the PC. The error was most likely a result of a shock to the PC triggering a SMART error from the Hard Drive. Since the Notebook PC passed the Hard Drive Test, it is safe to use.

Laptop help

yes, may be the hard drive... so goahead and run a test on hard drive....

try going to bios setup.... from the main menu in bios... highlight the hard drive... maybe displayed in first drive, or second drive...push Enter... and from the list select an option smart self test...
There would be two test's one is smart self test and smart extented self test... first select the smart self test... it would go up to 5 min... if it is pass go to second test...ie., smart extended test...it would go upto an hour.

If first test fails... no need to run the second...directly replace the hdd... but if pass go to second.. and check the hard drive..

As you said you are using UBUNTU.... try install it again.. if hdd both test pass..

Wont boot into windows

Have you attempted to run in Safe mode?  Does it boot there.  If you boot to safemode and it locks on MUP.SYS most likely just the OS needs reinstalled.  Go in to CMOS (F10 on boot I think) and under tools there should be a hard drive test.

Hope this helps

Hard drive Self Test

If I may ask a dumb question, was the new drive formatted prior to running the test? A unformatted drive will fail.
