SOURCE: Tamron 28-75 SP AF XR

You didn't state whether you are using it on an APS-C or a full-frame SLR, but that lens is known to be very soft and unsharp especially at the edges until you stop it down below f4. It also exhibits strong vignetting until you stop it down.

The effects are far more noticeable when using a full frame sensor.

Some production examples will be worse than others, and some users will notice the unsharpness more than others. You clearly find the performance to be unacceptable, but it is mentioned in almost every review of that lens. Your lens is not unique in the weaknesses it exhibits as most lenses perform worst at wide open apertures.

You have discovered one major reason why some lenses are cheaper than others, and why lenses designed especially for low lighting levels are hugely expensive..

Your only real fix is to try and avoid shooting at apertures of f4 and larger. If that's unacceptable to you and you need a lens which performs well in low lighting conditions then you can only return the lens for a refund (much easier if you live in the UK due to the Sale of Goods Act). If you cannot get a refund then I suggest you sell the lens and buy a better quality replacement, or better still replace the zoom lens with fixed focal length prime lenses.

Zoom lenses are always an optical compromise, particularly so with zooms covering the wide to short telephoto range, and now that many dSLR's can produce low noise results at very high ISO settings there's less demand from customers for manufacturers to make lenses which have outstanding performance at wide apertures at higher cost.

SOURCE: What's your pwill Tamron AF 1780 Lens 80mm - 210 work on a sony 200A dslrmmroblem?

Tamron makes their lenses with a variety of lens mounts. A lens with a Nikon mount, for example, will not work on a Sony camera. Assuming the lens has a Sony mount then yes, it will work fine on a Sony dSLR.

Can Tamron 2 X converter C-AF 1 BBAR MC-7 mounted with Canon 100-400mm? Tks

As you can read in the Dpreview link the Tamron converter can work perfectly with the Canon cameras. Question is, will AF still work, because you have to multiply the aperture twice. So if your lens has f/1:5,6 that will become f/1:8. Most camera's can't auto focus anymore on F 8

Was I sold a 'pup'? Tamron lens box says AF55-200mmF4-5.6LD MACRO. Can't find macro setting on lens or instructions. Looking at your site, Product Details says 'No Macro'. So what's...

Excerpted from a www.photo.net review of the lens:

Though the Tamron AF 55-200mm Di II LD Macro has "Macro" in its name, it's not really a macro lens. Maximum magnification is about 1/3 life size (Tamron spec it at 1:3.5) as you can see from the following image below, which was shot at 200mm and at the closest focus distance (0.9m/37.4"). This isn't too bad, but it's more of a close focus telephoto lens than a "macro" lens (bolding for emphasis added).

Is tamron af 35-90 compatible with nikon d200?

Tamron makes lenses with a variety of mounts. Assuming the lens has a Nikon mount, then it is fully compatible with the D200.

I cant seem to get the lens to fous on anything within 3 feet when in macro.. am i doing something wrong?

Actually you are doing really well cause the Tamron specifications for that lens is 1.5m translated into real numbers that's 4.92 feet. If you want some serious macro let me suggest the Canon 100mm F2.5 Macro lens it's not all that bad for price unless you get the IS version then it's out of the park well sort of. Most of my macro work is done on a tripod anyway so the IS is a waist for me.

Here is a review on that lens.

Also is you are using the APS size sensor there is a focal factor of 1.6 so the 100mm lens just grew to 180mm and twice as fast as your Tamron. Cheers

I have a Nikon d3000 and a Tamron AF 55-200mm lens. I cant get the lens to autofocus with my nikon

The Nikon D3000 does not have a focusing motor built-in, relying on the lens to have a motor. The Tamron AF 55-200mm does not have the necessary motor; it only auto-focuses with Nikon cameras that have the motor in the camera body.

For Nikon lenses, you need lenses designated AF-S. For Tamron, you need lenses designated USD and/or BIM.

That probably wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

I just bought a tamron di 2 AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 LD macro for my nikon D40 and i can't get it to autofocus

That 2x is not AF-s compatible. It is the older Af style which the d40 does not support. Your camera store should have known this when they sold it to you, unless you bought it mailorder. Then see if they will let you return or exchange it.
