The beaters were forced into the wrong holes by my husband and now I can't get them out. The release button seems to be jammed. He may have set the mixer down on the counter with the release button down to force them in. I was going to take the mixer apart, but will not come apart because the beaters are still in. From a post on a YouTube video demonstrating a McGyver-type fix to a damaged beater ring (the plastic piece which holds a beater in place) apparently KitchenAid has discontinued the availability of the beather ring.
This is the link to the YouTube video with the McGyver-type repair demonstrated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmS4FbROS50 The comment about the discontinued beater ring is from Dan Peters.
If you decide not to try the McGyver-type repair and choose to purchase a new hand mixer, you may wish to put the old mixer up for sale, to be used for repair parts (since it still has 1 good beater ring.) Or, you can send the old mixer to electronics recycling.
Use a small amount of vegetable oil to lubricate the beater shaft and
the beater. Slightly tap the beater up and sideways with a rubber mallet
until you can move the beater easily along the shaft.
Make sure your Beater can slip in and out of the Beater Shaft easily. Do not force the beater onto the Shaft if the shaft is bent. If it cannot be removed easily by hand, use a soft rubber mallet (not a steel hammer) to slightly tap the beater so it can be moved up and down the shaft or from side to side. Then you can easily turn the beater left and remove it from the shaft.
From Kitchenaid Manual: To Attach Flat Beater, Wire Whip, or Dough Hook 1. Turn speed control to OFF. 2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power. 3. Tilt motor head back. 4. Slip beater onto beater shaft and press upward as far as possible. 5. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over pin on shaft. 6. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

If lightly tapping the beater to get it to compress the spring does not work then you can drive the pin out that holds the beater on.
Once the pin is out you should be able to wiggle the beater and pull it straight off the shaft without having to push it up and rotate it first. If necessary just tap it lightly and it should slide off. Then you can replace the pin and lubricate the shaft with some olive oil or other cooking oil
You didn't oil yhe beater stems. Pour some wesson oil doen the stem sockets and sorta wiggle the beaters and work the release while doing so. First unplug the unit.Pour a tad bit around the release also.
The beater is held in place by a pin and spring arrangement. Lift and twist the beater. If that doesn't work, the pin is trying to come out...and is wedging against the beater. Tap the pin back in a bit, and the beater should release.

Will it turn at all? Try to soak it. Put a paper towel strip where the beater locks onto the shaft and soak ot with window cleaner. Let it soak for a while. If there's any buildup, this should soften it.
