SOURCE: Backfiring won't start bought new coils still won't start and pops backfires

Do you have a carburetor? If you do, it is set too rich. Also, your timing appears off. If you do have a carburetor, adjust the setting to the left a couple of turns. This will lean out the gas mixture. If you have a fuel injector, have the system checked. The air filter could be clogged and the fuel injector could be misaligned.

A backfire is often created because the timing is off, forcing the spark plugs to fire before the pistons get to the top of its power stroke, causing the mixture to burn prematurely.

Yamaha kodiak 450

hows it run once started, is the choke working. could have a rusted choke cable. once again this crappy gas may have destroyed the gaskets inside which been a real problem especially with 2 strokes.

Engine will not idle when warm, hard to start

There is one screw that adjusts the revs, you can increase the engine revs and it should solve the idling problem.Be careful as there may be one for air mixture which could look similar..make sure you adjust the one for the revs only.If this does not solve your problem then let us know.

yea if your sitting on it there should be a plastic screw on the carburetor that runs to the other side you can adjust it with your hand as it is big enough to turn by hand have it running and adjust it to your liking
