Recheck your wire connection on the motor. You likely put both your line wires on the same terminal. If not, try finding a local warranty center for a repair or replacement... http://www.haywardnet.com/locator/

Your motor has a thermal protection switch in it the reacts to an overheating condition. Once the motor cools enough it will turn back on. You may be able to have the motor rebuilt for about half the cost of new if it is not damaged to severely. Take it to a local electric motor repair shop for service. If it is damaged beyond repair, you can shop around for a new one. If you would like a quote, contact us at www.arrowpools.net with your pump model number and we can quote it.

The bearings and brushes are going. It could run like that for up to 5 years...

Some people specialize in fixing these, not too many though. I would replace the motor instead of throwing good money after bad.

I think your impeller may be stuck OR your start capacitor has failed. Your pump is going off on over load because it cannot turn or cannot start.

Pump runs for about 3min and shuts off

It sounds like it is overheating. There is a thermal switch that shuts the motor off if it gets too hot. This may be because the motor is pulling too many amps due to a bad winding or the bearings are starting to seize. The best solution is to replace the motor.

Pump runs for about 3min and shuts off/

That's the motors internal thermal switch doing its job. For some reason your motor is running hot. With the breaker off, remove the end cap on the back of the motor and use a 9/16 open ended wrench to see if the motor shaft turns freely. If it doesn't there may be some debris jammed at the impeller, or the bearings may be failing.
If the shaft moves freely the problem is probably internal to the motor. Usually a bad winding, Northstar pump motors average about 4-5 years, so if it is older than that or getting close the best bet is replacement.

Your pump is protected by a thermal device that shuts it off when over heated. Are you running 110 or 220? In my experience, your pump will run cooler on 220 ... consider coverting if appropriate.

Haywards Super Pump Tick tack sound

You may have been running it on the wrong voltage for 3 years especiallyif you feeding it 120 volts to a 220 setup. Assuming it is getting the right voltage and it clicks off and on you run winding is bad so the start winding cliicks on to bring it up to run speed opens the switch but the run winding isnt there so it repeats the process forever till it fails.

I'm need assistance wiring my hayward 2 speed super pump up with my pool timer. the pump is working now but it's running real hot and making alot of noise.

You may have a faulty bearing ... causing the noise. The pump is actually water cooled. Do you have 2 inch line for your 2 HP pump? Small pipe makes the pump work harder. If your lines are smaller, you may want to consider a smaller pump.

the motors will run pretty warm.

Run your pump on high for best results.

If you are using a timer ... you will need a double pole switch to turn it off if it is setup for 220 VAC (which it should be, for most econimical operation)
