Hello, sorry you are having trouble,
There are so many variables when it comes to Video play back on a Mac..
Yea, 1.25 Ghz with 1 GB of Ram answers most questions, yea, it should play OK,
BUT:

  • Is the video on a CD or DVD ? well, these iMacs don't have a very fast optical drive.
  • How much room do you have on your internal hard Drive, if it's too full ( more than 80% full ) then you will suffer read/write performance.
  • Is the video on an external harddrive, is it a USB drive? the USB on the iMac G4 is USB 1.1, 11Mbit/sec, way too slow to play a big video smoothly.
  • Just what is the size of the video, is it like that for all of them or just one, might it be a HD video with high frame rates?
  • What version of the MacOS X do you have installed? If you installed Leopard 10.5 on the iMac G4, nothing will run smoothly,
  • Are you playing this video over a network? forget it it's got to be on the internal or a FireWire external disk otherwise it will stagger...
Well, there you go, I know, it's so easy to say Hey man, just get a new Mac and everything will be fine... But that machine is going on 6 years old now, Video technology has not stood still.....

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 24A. The videos that I run from YouTube and other such sites do not run smoothly. They are jerky/choppy. What could be the reason. Please do not tell give me complicate

Anytime your streaming videos are playing but not running smoothly, you either have a slow internet connection and aren't downloading fast enough to keep the data streaming OR you don't have enough RAM to keep up with the streaming data and everything else that's going on in the background. Check your internet connection speed first. If you have a good download speed then add RAM to your pc. (You could also try clearing cache on your browser)

Sony VAIO vgatz750p has problems plating video. Playback is in almost slow motion and choppy

You probably need more ram memory. Also try playing a video in your dvd player. If it plays slow and choppy you definitely need more ram memory.

If you are trying to play a video from a website (streaming) then three things can affect how smooth it plays.
1) Memory - your ram memory might be low
2) The website might be experience heavy traffic from many users.
3) The Line Speed of your internet connection from your service provider might be slow. For example: AT&T sells about 3 or 4 different packages and each one increases the line speed for uploading or downloading. If you buy the low end package the line speed is very slow on uploading and downloading or streaming. It's ok for just surfing, but nothing else.

Choppy video and sluggish computer response

How much HD space do you have left? Most macs run best if you keep abou 10gb of HD space free. Furthermore, cut back on excessive app loads (bells and whistles. The ultimate solution is to back up your files and reinstall the mac os. If the problem persists it is possible that the CPU is starting to break down. This is replaceable at significant cost from mac repair shop. Maximizing RAM helps some, but age of the equipment will reduce performance.

Laptop with Choppy Video

First of all you're running vista, which is a major no-no. Since your RAM is only 2 gigs, vista will take up about 1.3-1.5 gigs of ram, depending on which version you have.As for the video card i really do not see a problem. Try updating your drivers, i would suggest Driver Genius Professional Edition, as for free editions google them. Hope this helps. I'm not as good at laptops, so bare with me.

Videos play slow and choppy but sound is ok

The video is choppy because your computer is not powerful enough to decode the video. The imac g3 was a great computer in its day but it was never designed to run the graphically intensive programs of today. OS 10.4 already places a lot of demands on an older machine. Adding youtube video only exasperates the problem as there simply isn't enough processing power or memory to run the pretty aqua user interface of OS 10.4 and decode video at the same time.

Adding more ram may help (256 MB is not very much these days) but truth be told I don't think you will see much of an improvement given the low power of the G3 processor. Sorry to say it, but if you want to watch flash videos (youtube) with any level of reliability you are going to have to look for a newer machine. You probably could find a used imac g5 for a good price on ebay or maybe treat yourself to a new imac. Rumour has it Apple will be coming out with a new model in the next few days (weeks) so keep on eye out for that if your thinking of buying new.

Slow and choppy karaoke video from my laptop

Orginally your unit comes with 256MB of RAM wit a shared 64MB of VGA. If you haven't added any RAM yet, then I suggest upgrade it by adding another 512MB or 1 GB of DDR PC2700.

Hope this helps.
If it does please vote. Thanks!
