I'm not sure why you slammed the system shut, bu if it was to do with a system performance issue, the most likely answer is that the hard disk drive is or has failed.

If running Windows XP, boot to recovery console, see if you can run chkdsk on the drive. If Vista, boot to the DVD and run repair my computer.

Most likely, if those options do not get the system to boot, a hard drive replacement may be in the cards.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

How do I access the screen that shows BIOS options as I wish to upload UBUNTU 11.04 from a pendrive, so I want to make my first and possibly second BIOS options to be for the pendrive.

At boot time repeatedly pressing either, F2 , F12, or possibly Fn+F1 this is depending upon the bios wether it has been updated or upgraded. One of these should do the trick.....

Slammed the lid down on my laptop, & it doesn't work

you most likely damaged the LCD or dislodged the cables from system board to the LCD. Also check for a small button or "nub" near the base of the screen, is it stuck or broken? this turns off the screen when lid is closed, slamming may have got it stuck.

if you have an external monitor. shut off the laptop, connect the video cable from external monitor and turn on laptop...do you get video?

if yes, your LCD is damaged and needs service. if no, you have done far more damage and need to have the whole thing diagnosed at a service center.

Toshiba Satellite A105-S2201

it sounds like when you slammed on the hard drive you cause the mechanical arm inside the drive to malfunction. you will need to replace the hard drive and then reload winbdows and the drivers for your laptop
