The compressor stopped working. After some fiddling around, I discovered that the compressor will work only by the following method: 1. Press on/off button to turn off dehumidifier then unplug it from the electrical outlet. 2. Plug the dehumidifier into the electrical outlet, then press the on/off button to turn the machine on. 3. Keep pressing the down arrow to set the relative humidity lower until the compressor comes on. This is the only way I can get the Compressor to come on. If I just press the button to turn the machine off and then on, the compressor never comes on. I tried it for 12 hours and NO WATER and the compressor never came on. Then, when I press the on/off button to turn the machine off, then unplug it, then plug it in again, then press the on/off button to turn it on, then set the humidity until the compressor is activated. However, after these actions, the compressor runs for less than a minute and then it shuts off, and only the fans continues to run. Can someone explain why this is happening and how it can be fixed? Thank you.

Finally figured out that something like a humidistat is no longer working or is faulty. Problem is that I had no idea where to locate it, what it looks like and no diagrams available for detailed self repair. So I put the machine out on the road and someone came along and cut off the cord. Great idea! I should have thought of that. Since then I have purchased 2 Gree dehumidifiers from Costco (45 pint and a 30 pint). They are quiet - fan and compressor shut off when humidity setting is reached and they have worked beautifully. Great service department also - customer service is in Quebec city, Canada. *** No longer have the Danby problem *** SOLVED ...
