Same problem, the forward an reverse switch wasn't shifting the brush assembly far enough in the forward position,I tied the brush assembly with a piece of string so as to lock it in place after removing the forward and reversing switch so I could use the drill, don't have reverse but can use the drill again.
Look at the back of the brush holder for a tab that the forward/reverse lever locks into, it might be broken not allowing it to shift.

Same problem. Bought refurb'd. Took the drill apart, everything looked ok. When it first happened, it smelled like something melted. Thought I needed the switch, now not sure if a new brush assembly will fix it. OF course the brushes are a dealer part only.

Hi, Its not the trigger but the contacts on the forward/reverse lever. Have you taken it apart to look at those contacts?
