Printhead is bad and needs replaced. Brother gives a 1 year warranty and may replace the printhead for free even after the warranty has expired.

SOURCE: Brother MFC 425CN will not print black

Have a look at the bk cart. Did you fix it well into position by clipping the support above the cart?
Can you see any difference by ink fuel before and after cleaning cycle? If there is no difference the valve is not open: drill a hole into the top cover and leave it open. Try another cleaning cycle again.

SOURCE: black ink is not dispensing

There may be an air bubble in the black tubing, it will take several more cleaning cycles to clear. You can tell it to clean only the black and save the other inks.

SOURCE: brother mfc-5490cn will not print black. Has new

If you've already run the cleaning cycle that many times without success you probably have to replace your print head. The best thing to do is to take the printer to a Brother repair center and have them give you a quote. Quite often it is actually cheaper to replace rather than repair.

My Brother MFC-7420 Printer always prints black lines and splotches down the left side of my paper. This happens whether I'm scanning or printing from my PC. When I looked at my drum, it appears a

If you are seeing vertical streaks/black lines your primary corona wire is dirty and or the fax scanner may be dirty.
1)To clean the corona wire you take the drum unit and toner cartridge and place it on disposable paper to avoid spilling.
2) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3) Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position.
4) Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge.
5) Close the front cover.
Caution: if you do not return the blue tab to the home position it may repeat the black lines.

Blank pages printing

Sounds like the printhead is pretty severely dried. As standard cleaning cycles haven't helped I would recommend picking up some LC900 cleaning cartridges from eBay etc. These are cartridges filled/partially filled with cartridge flush and break down ink inside the printer.

Most of them contain a mix of ink and flush and you can carry on printing as usual. Given the severity of the dried/blocked printhead you have I would recommend just running cleaning cycles, but leave 10 minutes or so between cleans to avoid overheating the printhead.

You need to call Brother at 1-877-brother and tell them your mfc is "missing black". They will tell you where to take it to get the print head replaced under Brothers' warranty. This is a VERY common problem and Brother will cover the cost to repair it.

Will not receive faxes or copy Fax line rings but the machine says its receiving but nothing will print out and it won't copy pages either I've tried turning the machine off for up to 5 minutes,...

To begin troubleshoot, you should set the machine to basic Fax/Tel mode only.
1 If it is not illuminated in green, press (Fax). 2 Press Menu/Set, 2, 1, 2. 3 Press ? or ? to select how long the MFC will ring to alert you that you have a voice call (20, 30, 40 or 70 seconds). Press Menu/Set. 4 Press Stop/Exit. Even if the caller hangs up during the pseudo/double-ringing, the MFC will continue to ring for the set time.
After you confirm your Brother MFC-5440CN is able to receive fax then you can pick one of the 4 modes as describe on the owner manual.
You can download it HERE Detail Information is on 3-10

Changed all 4 cartridges, yellow, red, grey not printing. Only blue & black print

Sounds like most of the color lines (the "cables" between print head and cartridges) either have clogged ink in them, or air bubbles. Try the cleaning process found by pressing Ink Management and then Menu/Set twice. After the test print sheet is printed, answer the question(s) in the display and print up to five test prints by answering the questions.
It should solve the problem, but if it doesn't, you should perform a heavier duty purge found in the service mode.

Black ink won't print at all

Run the cleaning process a couple of times.  The printhead might have gotten sucked dry.
