Use xp os disk and use repair os ...
boot from xp os disk choose install new NOT repair and system will examine and detect that an os already exists and give options continue install new, repair or quit...at this point choose repair..
install new and repair both take around about the same time to complete only repair leaves existing files or downloads previously saved intact and available.also when you install new often you need to find certain software/drivers as windows doesnt install by default (wireless, blutooth, sometimes modem, often vga.) I have my device drivers on a cd for whenever if ever I may need.
once your up and running install a recovery suite that can recover from startup.if you cant find one or dont know of one send ur email and I'll send you the one I use.
then next time you have a software issue you just hit f11 at start and entire hard drive is repaired/recovered in about 5 or 6 min.

SOURCE: recover problem

This can happen if the Recovery Partition is corrupted or the Hard Drive is bad.
First, I recommend you to check the Hard Drive using the Hard Drive test utility available in the BIOS by following the steps below :
Start or restart the notebook and start tapping the F10 key.
This will get you the BIOS Setup window.
In this. go to the Diagnostics or Tools tab where you can find the Hard Drive test utility.
Select using the Up/Down arrow keys and press enter to start the test.
Make sure that you complete the Full test which may take around 80 minutes to complete.
If the Test result is Pass, we can come to a conclusion that the issue is with the Recovery Partition which is corrupted.
You need to purchase the Recovery Disks for your Notebook in this situaiton.
Contact HP Chat Support to get the exact link to order the Recovery Disks for your Notebook.
However, if the Test Result is Fail, you need to take backup of the data in the Notebook and replace the Hard Drive with a new one.
Hope this helps...

Hard disk error no recovery disc

@lizegim

HP laptops have a built-in recovery mode on the system wherein you don't need to use a disc to restore it to factory default. The hotkey for the recovery is the F10 key. After you press the power button, you need to simultaneously press the F10 key to start system recovery. If this one won't work and gave you like an "I/O Error" or "Error 0x000000E" or something similar then that means that the HDD is already defective and needs replacement and you need to order the recovery discs from HP at 1-800-474-6836. If you're still under warranty, they'll replace the HDD and give the Recovery Discs to you for free.

Good luck.

I have the same problem the toshiba recovery disk i get error message 10f8060017.its a toshiba A105-2194 win xp media edition. i have tried everything wiped the disk to all 0's. Used a win xp original disc...

You have tried all possible solutions and troubleshooting.

My Suggestion is to check the Warranty of the Hard Disk and get it replaced. this possible shows a mismatch between the Laptop and hard drive.

My HP pc keeps throwing the error 1005 at 31%, I did just install a cpu (used) so I am reformating with discs. Any good ideas?

Hi,

Error 1005 when using HP recovery DVDs
Before using the Recovery Disc, make sure the HDD is good. The Hard Disc Driver Test can performed either through [F2] Screen : Start up Diagnostics or through [F10] : Diagnostics . The [F2] / [F10] should be held while turning on the computer to get to the respective windows. In most cases, the reason for this error: 1005 is the Hard Driver failure.

You could also try to remove a memory module as sometimes Vista does not like a large amount of memory installed when using recovery CD/DVD's.

How to do system recovery on compaq presario 5000 windows me

Starting a Recovery Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F10 key repeatedly until a Recovery Screen appears. You can also start a recovery from recovery discs, or from Windows. For more information refer to Performing a Full System Recovery in Windows XP . Back to topRecovery is taking too long If your computer stops responding after using the recovery program, do the following:
NOTE: If the computer appears to have stopped responding after restarting from a recovery, please wait, it may take several hours or longer to complete the initial Windows XP setup process, especially if a recovery was run from a recovery disc set sent by HP. A Standard recovery may also take longer, depending on how many files are stored in user accounts (like in My Documents ).
  1. Exit the stalled recovery process by pressing the POWER button on the PC until the power turns off, this takes approximately five seconds.
  2. Before recovering, disconnect personal media drives, printers, scanners, cameras, camera-type memory cards, and other devices that did not originally come with the PC.
  3. If you are using recovery discs, be aware of the following items:
    • If you created the recovery discs using Recovery CD Creator, be sure to run the recovery from the same drive that you used to create the discs.
    • Clean the discs with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth wetted with distilled water. Wipe from the center of the disc to the outside edge. You may also use disc cleaning kits or disc restoration kits from your local computer store. These kits produce better results than using cloth and water.
    • You may also use available CD/DVD Drive cleaning kits to clean the laser reading lens of the CD or DVD drive.
  4. Try running a full system recovery again from the hard drive by turning the on the computer and pressing the F10 key until a Recovery Screen appears. This performs the recovery from the hard drive.
  5. If the recovery stops when recovering from the hard drive, use the section Disc errors occur during the recovery process to eliminate errors on the drive. Try recovering again after the disk errors are removed.

Error : 10-FC12-0570 when i try to reinstall with the cds

Error 10-FC12-0570 on Toshiba satellite This error message means that the recovery utility was not able to read the data from the disc correctly, or wasn't able to write it to the hard drive.
The problem could be with the disc, the CD/DVD drive or the hard drive.

Solution:

Try copying the second disc using another system. If it's impossible: order for a new disc. If you can copy it, try using the copy to do the restore.

Try using a third party disk checker to verify the problem, is or is not, with the hard drive.

The best way would be to load the Windonws Vista discs, format the pc and reinstall.
(Vista Recovery Boot Cd is available free by Microsoft). Download it burn the Image .iso and run that disc. That disc will not restore the OS: run diagnostics on the HDD; once disk check is completed and repaired, proceed with the Recovery disks that you have.

Recovery Error

Do recovery again, when it asks you to insert disc 2, take out disc one and close the tray. Do not put the disc 2 yet. If you can see the error message again, then it is a RAM issue. You need to reseat the Memory module and try to do the recovery again.

If you closed the tray then no error message came up, it would be an issue with your recovery disc and order for a new one. You can contact Toshiba to have the recovery replaced due to corrupt media.

Hope this helps.
