Your Gateway laptop comes with a series of LED lights that alert you to the state of your computer. You'll notice there are blue, purple and red lights that either blink or display solidly. Each light, blinking or solid, has a different meaning. The blue blinking light on your laptop indicates that it is in Standby mode. Your laptop goes into Standby when you close its lid without shutting down the computer. To turn this light off, you'll need to take the computer out of Standby mode, and if you want to ensure that the blinking blue light does not return, shut down the computer after each use.

Open the lid of your Gateway laptop and press the power button. Once Windows loads, enter your password if required. The blue light will no longer be blinking because the computer is no longer in Standby mode. Shut the laptop off when you finish using it rather than simply closing the lid to stop the blue light from blinking again. Click "Start" from your Windows desktop and click "Shut down." Change your computer's power settings to keep if from going into Standby mode when you close the lid if you'd rather not shut down your computer every time you use it. Click "Start" and click "Control Panel." Click "System and Security" and then click "Power Options." Click "Choose what closing the lid does" from the list of options on the left side of the window. Select "Hibernate" from the drop-down lists under "On Battery" and "Plugged In." Click "Save Changes." Your laptop will now bypass Standby mode when you close the lid and it will enter Hibernate mode instead. Hope it helps.

I have a gateway NV53a Batt went dead wont start correctly since

Try removing the battery and see if you have any issue just using the power cord. The laptop may be detecting issues with the battery causing it to malfunction. If that is the case just replace the battery with an OEM (original manufacturers) part.

The VGA Port on my Gateway NV53A laptop has come loose. It can still be made to work if I position the vga plug upward at precisely the right angle, but that involves keeping the laptop held still, ot

There should be 2 small nuts holding the connector in place these are also used to secure the external monitor VGA connector to the computer. You can get them from a computer shop.

Delete hardrive on a gateway nv53a

To delete a harddrive you would go into BIOS Setup, and remove.
(Main menu, or Standard BIOS options (setup)

Was there a previous harddrive, you installed a new one, and the old is still showing up, or what is going on?

http://support.gateway.com/s/notebook/2010/gateway/nv/nv53A/NV53Asp2.shtml

My intel indicates press F2 to enter BIOS Setup.
The best method I've found is;

AS SOON AS you press the Power On button, start tapping on the F2 key.
You may hear beeps as you do.
Those are Stuck key Error Code beeps, and it is you that is doing it.
Ignore them.

If you do not know how to navigate in BIOS Setup, or save changes; post back in a Comment.

Totally way off? Post back in a Comment.

Clock resetting and power button malfunctioning on my Gateway NV53A laptop.

Replace the CMOS battery. In the Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, open Advanced power settings, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, Adjust other settings to your preference. Set Screen Saver Time. Always turn off the computer and unplug when not in use, it will prolong life and a reboot every day will reset the computer. I would say you have a issue with the outlet connections/plug. If you have a multimeter you can verify.
