I've just bought a Lifechat LX-3000 headset, but the microphone does not work. When I test it by the 'test hardware' in the audio control panel, there is no sound at all. Does it mean I must install any software? The attached CD Rom has only a link to a Windows Live Messenger, so I have not installed anything from the CDRom.

I have somewhat of the same problem, I just bought the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000, i went, and installed the drivers and connected the head set. But the only problem is that my mic won't respond, I hear music sounds etc, through the head phones, but when i try to test my mic, i get nothing, it does not pick it up, any solutions? and i tried downloading the online driver, same problem (I am using XP)I have somewhat of the same problem, I just bought the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000, i went, and installed the drivers and connected the head set. Go to Control Panel>Large Icon View>Sound>Playback Tab>Right Click The Headset Icon>Properties>Advanced Tab>Change the Default format from CD quality to DVD quality and voila. :D

I bought the headset recently and on first plug-in --- nothing! But then I realized that I had to open Sound in System Preferences and select them as the output choice. Works fine, though I haven't had a chance to test it out fully. But it works!
With the infamous Vista, try:
Start --> Control panel --> Hardware and sound --> Sound --> Audio devices admin [I have a Spanish OS, I hope it is the same in the English version], then assign as default device the headset.
With Skype and other sw, you have to specifically pick the lx-3000 as the device that will be used as audio device (and the same has to be done to use the mic).

You cant wire then directly there is a USB D-A chip that controls the headset converting to 1/8" mini plugs may work one for the mic and one stereo plug for the earcups
