Motherboard changover i have a compaq md 6000/6430nx presario computer i need to change the motherboard in..it has a athalon 2.26 prosessor currently and a am37 motherboard,,one day it froze and after a reboot..nothing..no logo screen no bios screen,,nothing,,running xp home,,monitor light just flashes,,no beep codes,,computer will start and cd drives run fine ,,so i'm guessing it's a motherboard or prosessor problem,,checked the ram in another machine ,,and tried another power supply and both checked out ok,,my questions are can i go to a p4 pentium prosessor /motherboard combo and what would be a good interchange combo? i have found some combo deals online with p4 1.8-2.4 gig prosessors .. and really don't need anything super fast for my home pc..but i'm wandering about the different boards having different conectors for power switch leads ,,or are they mostly compatiable and universal,,and as long as i get the proper motherboard driver will brand name make a difference?i've been involved with computers since the 286 days so i do have the basic knowledge of the principles of operations and parts changovers but with so many motherboards out there available and working with a budget it's hard to deceide what way to go.. thanks for any advice ya can give curt thanks

It seem that everything is working except for the monitor or perhaps the on board video.

I would try a different monitor, if that does not resolve the issue. I would try installing a new video card. If you do try this, you will need to disable the on board video through the BIOS at start up.

I hope this helps,

Eric

Want to change motherboard of f700

If you change the motherboard, you'll need to buy a new copy of Windows XP (or Vista), since the current copy will *ONLY* work on your *CURRENT* motherboard. Expensive!

Wish to overclock a compaq presario 5140 with motherboard model 0434h made by compaq with chipset i440BX/ZA Rev B and southbridge 82371EB/MD (PIIX4E/M)

Most of the shelf systems run a deliberately crippled BIOS so that they can't be overclocked. Chances are you're gonna have to go the software route.

Compaq Presario 1272 save disk error

On the motherboard of all computers is a small battery. It looks like a watch battery. The purpose is to keep a small amount of electricity going to the motherboard so the time and date can stay current. When that battery gets low on power or dies then the time and date is wrong. Its called the CMOS battery and it needs to be replaced and then everything will return back to normal. You can do it yourself if you're confident or take it to computer repair shop.

Want to up grade my cpu and ram to improve speed and program use.

Question#1 is my current processor duel core or single core , how can I know?

Intel Celerons are Single Core. You can also download and run CPUID (free) from http://www.cpuid.com/ No installation needed either , just run it!

Question#2 What kind of duel core processor in combination with new ram should I install?

I dont think your computer supports dual core. I cannot be sure without you giving me the make and model of the motherboard. Besides , a 3.33ghz Celeron D is a great processor!!!!

Memory - See http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Presario%20SR2150NX you can have a max of 2gb. You have 2 slots on the motherboard so its 1 gb per slot and the board takes DDR2 PC2-5300.

Here , you can expand to your max of DDR2 PC2-5300 2gb (2x1gb) for $24 and theres free shipping too!!!

Motherboard

2.2Ghz should be the fastest for your motherboard, also the cpus FSB is MAX 400Mhz

the socket is S478

only old cpus work in your motherboard new and currently being sold, core 2 duo family prosessors wont work. they all have fsb 667 or higher and your motherboard only supports up to 400fsb

here is the best cpu for your pc
