Acer 4520 laptop media test failure

Boots to nvidia boot agent screen - pXE - e61: media test failure check cable and PXE - M0F: Exiting nvidia boot agent. It isn't finding an operating system. No, my brother-in-law did make a recovery disk when he got it. Anything else i can do for him?

I checked inside the laptop & reseated the hard drive cables. We've ordered an eRecovery disk from the manufacturer (Acer) and will see how that works (hopefully it will boot to the CD & format the hard drive before installing the OS & programs). Thanks for the help.

Wile I am trying to boot it up it goes in to a loop

Hello.

That error message usually refers to a hard disk failure. Your hard disk cable could be loose or faulty. Or, your hard drive would need to be replaced.

I'd suggest to check the cable and run your system's hardware diagnostics (often F2 or F12) when your system boots.

Hope this helps.

Error Message: PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Check Cable

Not always the Hard drive, boot into the bios setup utility and de-select network bootfrom the boot options. If it tries to network boot first you will always get that failure.

The BIOS, which handles the initial start up of your computer, cannot find your hard drive and thus cannot boot your operating system (ie, Windows). Open up your computer and confirm the power cable is firmly connected to the hard drive and that the cable that connects the hard drive to the motherboard is firmly secure. If both of these check out, then try downloading this bootable CD on another computer. This CD, among other things, has a few hard drive utilities that will help further diagnose the problem. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Finally, if the utilities on this CD are unable to see the hard drive itself, then is may need to be replaced. Try testing with another hard drive or another cable to connect it to the motherboard.
