Minolta 70000 AF - Stuck on Rewind

I just received this camera. It appears to be in good condition, other than the fact that it does not advance the film when I load. It displays 'Film' and '0'. I suspect it is because it is stuck on rewind as I can activate the rewind mode by sticking a piece of paper into the mechanism. The little grey 'lever' just below the display is pulled all the way to the left, when ordinarily I think it is supposed to be pushed in. I cannot manually force it back into place. Any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: Unable to rewind film in camera

Well, I used to work at a camera store and actually encountered this a number of times with Minolta's. I can't remember if the motors wore out or if the film slipped or tore at the track. The solution: take the camera into a darkroom or pitch black environment and remove the film by hand. Bring a pair of scissors and a black film container just in case the film tears or the track is torn. Obviously be careful to ensure no light is available if you can't access a darkroom. Check the bottom of the camera for a small button that disengages the motor gear (some newer models may not have this)(you may have to hold it in). Open the film door and with clean hands, use your index fingers and thumbs carefully on the tracks only and pull evenly. You may feel some resistance from the motor and hear the motor but if it won't budge check again if the bottom of the camera has a film release. As you do this feel for torn areas in the track which may indicate a motor malfunction or improperly loaded film. Now just wind the film back into the canister unless the track is torn. You may want to leave the leader out, and you should probably have the film developed right away for a list of reasons. If the track is torn, cut it off at the canister and touching only the edges roll it up and put it inside the plastic film container. Mark it "open film", or Open only in darkroom etc. and mention it to your developer. Alternately you can just hand over your camera to your developer who will do all of this for you...

SOURCE: Minolta X370 film loading problem.

First make sure your batteries are OK , camera will not work without two 1.5 v batteries. If your camera still doesnt work this is probably  because the shutter is cocked but you cannot release the shutter and that is why you cannot advance the transport mechanism. The shutter release mechanism needs repairing first. SREMEDY : take bottom cover off ( 4 screws ) and locate 220 mf 6v capacitor ( it is the only one in this part of the camera , cant miss it ). Replace the capacitor while you keep an eye on the polarity ( indicated on the casing of the capacitor ) and you camera should work fine ( dont forget camera needs  two 1.5v  batteries to work ! )

SOURCE: film advance lever stuck

This sounds like shutter release problem and can be fixed by replacing a 3v 220 mf capacitor ( leaking by now because they do not last more than 8-10 years and your camera is 25 years old ). You can do it your -self but will need a soldering iron and a replacement capacitor : remove bottom cover and locate small ( usually black in colour ) capacitor on the right hand side of the camera. Unsolder -- keeping an eye on polarity which is marked on the outside of the capacitor-- and replace with new one. Switch camera on and it should release the shutter and you are back in the saddle.

When you press on the shutter release does it "click"? A few hard taps with the end of your finger onto the shutter reelase button may unjam it if it is stuck...

SOURCE: The film advance lever is stuck on my minolta

Here are the most likely:
A. Lever will not move on some models if the shutter is already cocked. If the shutter is cocked, and will not release with new batteries INSERTED CORRECTLY, then the most likely is this...
Two capacitors in these Minoltas die over time. If you are handy at such things, you can buy the caps, remove top and bottom covers, remove the dead caps and solder in the new ones. Don't Panic.
You can find instructions on the web for this well known issue, and you can also opt to send it to a camera repair place. Garrys camera repair in Niles, ILL does it for about $58 incl return shipping. He will also clean, lube and adjust it for ya. Something they all need eventually.

The battery in my Minolta Maxxum 7000 died while rewinding. I replaced the battery, but nothing happens and the rewind-button/slide is stuck. How do I reset this slide, so I can rewind my film?

Sorry to hear you're having troubles with your Minolta. First thing I would do is make sure that the batteries you put in our good and that you do have power coming out of that battery box. He didn't mention whether the batteries had corroded or if there had been any corrosion previously. The rewind button on this camera will not reset until the camera again advances. In other words it is an automatic release on the camera fires the first time after a rewind. So as an beginning answer to your question I would check the batteries again make sure that all contacts are absolutely clean and as you may have noticed the battery boxes on the Minolta do pivot. The contacts under the pivot points also have to be clean. If you checked all of these issues and you're still having problems please feel free to e-mail me at, [email protected].
Thank you good luck

I own a Minolta 7000 series that was given to me. I do not have the manual for it. On the front of the camera it also says AF. My question is, how do I rewind the film and take it out of my camera. ...

If it's a Minolta Maxxum 7000, it should automatically rewind the film when finished with the roll. To manually rewind the film, open the card door on the right side of the camera and press the rewind button. Open the back cover by pressing the button in the center of the back-cover release and sliding the release downward.

You can download the manual from

How do i get my advance lever to move it seems jammed

A Canon AE-1 is not an EOS camera the Canon "A" series is manual focus while EOS is auto focus. First thought In answer to the advance lever stuck or jammed I'm going to assume the camera is in serviceable condition and has not been subjected to water damage or harsh use. If we are dealing with just the advance lever then I'd say that you have over advanced the film at the last frame. I've done this myself after loading a 24 exposure and thinking I had a 36 exposure film. At the bottom of the camera there is a little pin which releases the advance lever and allows the user to rewind the film. Under normal conditions when it's time to rewind the film into the canister this pin offers little resistance to pushing in to release, however depending on how much force the advance lever has been subjected to increases the tension on this pin. Push the pin in and rewind the film.
Second thought is if you have film in the camera and it has not been used fully then it's possible that the film has already been advanced to a new frame and the shutter needs to be activated before the lever will become free and advance to the next frame.
Other problems with the Canon "A" series cameras is they have a tendency to dry out the lubrication and begin to squeak when the shutter is fired. This condition can eventually result is a shutter seizure and give the same advance lever condition.
Those are the three things that come to mind over this lever problem lets hope it's just run out of film.

The film wont advance

remove and reinsert battery.
be sure you pulled the film all the way across the back.
be sure the door latches.
be sure camera is on.
try the rewind button, it may think it has film in it, ready to rewind.
Still no good? film advance motor may be dead. If so, it needs repair. Lucky for you, the Maxxum 50 goes for cheap on Ebay. You can get another at a good price.

Rewind runs but film still seems stuck & won't rewind-Max 3xi

It could be that there is a broken or missing gear in the rewind. It will spin but not catch. Sometimes when film is loaded it, is not drawing the film across and missing a gear, so it seems like your taking photos and its not. If you sent it to minolta, good luck, they were bought out by Konica, and probably didnt' do a thorough analysis of it.

I have a friend who fixes cameras. Cleans them, lubricates them, and callibrates them,

Hope this helps you

Film advancement

Transport mechanism problem; the drag on the film as it is being pulled by the transport motor triggers the rewind mechanism and your camera rewinds the film. Remedy : remove bottom cover and clean loose dirt and anything foreign out of the visible gear-train. Assemble and try again.
