Sony HDR PJ10E code 18 installation error on windows XP

I tried to install the PMB software on my Windows XP laptop so i can download my pictures and videos; but the message that keeps coming up is an installation error and in the Control panel Device Manager, it says "Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)". I have re-installed and nothing changes so I am wondering what it is that is the problem.

SOURCE: Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV not recognized by Windows 7

win vista and win 7doesn't support usb streaming. the usb driver for this model would not be compatible with your computer's OS. although, you were able to download PMB still this wouldn't work, it's basically an alternative software that you can use with the newer OS. still the device driver would not be installed. and you would get a message that "ilink connection is not detected". the reason you get that is bec the camcorder and the software is intended for use with the dv (ilink or ieee1394) connection. so if your computer has an ieee1394 card and you have a compatible ilink cable, then your good to go,it should be a plug-and-play connection (no drivers required). all you need then would be a video capturing software (like win moviemaker) to transfer videos from tape to PC. hope this helps. thanks :)

Transfer/Edit Sony HDR-TG3 1080i AVCHD Videos on Windows/Mac Sony Handycam...

Transfer/Edit Sony HDR-TG3 1080i AVCHD Videos on Windows/Mac

Sony Handycam HDR-TG3E is a super small camera with full HD recording on Memory Stick in 2008. It includes 4GB and 10x optical zoom for capturing 1920x1080 and 1440x1080 videos. However, this camera does not include progressive recording mode, which indicates that the HD videos are 1080i. Even though it is compact camera, the audio is recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1ch. You can also take 2.3Mp stills while you are recording video footage.
Sony HDR-TG3E features:
- 1920x1080i HD video recording
- 4 megapixel still photo recording
- Dual Rec simultaneous 2.3 megapixel still photo during video recording
- Handy face detection
- Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens
- ClearVid CMOS Sensor and Exmor derived technology
Videos from Sony HDR-TG3E:
Movie Format:
- High Definition: AVCHD (1920 x 1080, 1440 x 1080) in .mts filename extension
- Standard Definition: MPEG2 in .mpg filename extension
Movie Quality:
- HD: FH (1920x1080i, 16Mbps) / HQ (9Mbps) / SP (7Mbps) / LP (5Mbps)
- SD: HQ (9Mbps) / SP (6Mbps) / LP (3Mbps)

Transfer & Edit Sony HDR-TG3 AVCHD videos:
For Windows users:
Install the Picture Motion Browser (PMB) from the bundled CD in box, and connect Sony HDR TG3 to PC via USB cable. Use Sony PMB to download HD .mts videos from camcorder to PC.
For Mac users:
You can capture and transfer Sony HDR-TG3 1080i videos to iMac/MacBook Pro via iMovie after connecting camera to computer with USB cable. However, you may face problem when trying to log and transfer AVCHD videos from Sony Handycam HDR-TG3E to Final Cut Express (FCE) 4 or Final Cut Pro (FCP) 5. After transferring HD .mts videos from camera to computer hard drive, just run Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac as the Mac Sony HDR-TG3 MTS converter to deinterlace .mts videos and convert .mts to .mov for FCE and FCP, if you want to edit HD videos.
Alternative way to transfer HDR TG3 videos for Mac and PC:
Just connect HDR TG3 pocket camera to computer via the USB cable, and the HDR TG3 will display as a hard drive on computer. Navigate to the HDR TG3 hard drive to access the memory stick.
Tips: Sony Handycam HDR-TG3E is the model for Europe, and Sony Handycam HDR-TG1 is the model for US.

My software cd will not work on my new computer which is a dell with xp pro

The Hawkes:
Sony has changed their provider for support software for their camcorders. Please see this page at the Sony web site for information on how to download and install the new "Picture Motion Browser" (PMB) software to support your camera:

You will need to download the software and follow the directions on the page above to install PMB on your system. Be sure to save the old, outdated software CD, because you will need it to be able to install PMB again in the future.

Thanks for using FixY

I CAN'T VIEW VEDIO CLIPS ON MY COMPUTER FROM MY SONY HDR-XR200VE. WHAT IS AVCHD?

AVCHD stands for Advance Video Coding High Definition. Its a video format jointly developed by Sony and JVC. Windows pre-installed applications doesn't natively support this format. You would need the supplied software (Picture Motion Browser v.5) to playback or view your media files.Although it's possible to manually import files to your PC [Mac computers would need to have an intel-based processor, imovie'08 or '09, and NO SD (Standard Definition) FILES recorded to be able to transfer videos] still a you would need a mediaplayer software that supports and recognize AVCHD files for playback. AVCHD files are located in the AVCHD folder>BDMV>Stream. Files would have a .mts or .m2ts extension. So either you use the supplied software or invest on a AVCHD compatible video capturing or editing software.Hope this helps... (update may be released within this month for PMB v.5.2 but downloading orig software for this 2010 model cam, would be better to check this site (you can download PMB software if you don't have it): http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/camcorders/hdh/hdh.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=HDR-XR200VE

SONY HANDYCAM DCR-35E

I had the same problem. When I purchased my HDR-SR11 camera some four years ago, I was running XP and the PMB Disc Burning worked well. When I changed over to Windows 7 I kept bombing out like a lot of other users. The problem was that I was using an old version of PMB (3.0.00). I went to the Sony web site and downloaded the latest version of PMB with an upgrade (0810a.exe) This fixed my problem and the Disc Burn function workes perfectly now.

NEC ND-6500A Cant burn DVD-R

I figured out what was causing the problem with my NEC 6500A on my Dell laptop: The Sony Picture Motion Browser software that I was using to burn DVD's is only compatible up to Service Pack 2 of Windows XP. The day after I installed Service Pack 3, the software stopped burning DVD's. So I uninstalled Service Pack 3, rebooted, unistalled the Sony PMB software, rebooted and re-installed the Sony PMB software and I can now burn DVD's again. So check whether the software you're burning your DVD's with is compatible with whatever version of your operating system you're operating with. Hope this helps someone else!
