I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook, but I'm coming up with the Blue Screen of Death, the error code it gives me is: "STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF789160, 0xF7DE870, 0xF78DE56C) kdcom.dll - Address F7898160 base at F7897000, Datestamp 4f8f0f42" I received this display after viewing my school's website for homework which gave me a virus of some description. Help would be very greatly appreciated. The netbook itself has been "well loved" if the condition of the machine is needed.
Those error codes don't really mean very much to the general consumer, but blue screens of deaths are caused by bad RAM memory in your computer, not viruses. I'm going to take a guess that your computer is either several years old and/or it constantly get quite warm? Heat can shorten the life of computer components by quite a bit. You may need to get one of your RAM cards replaced to solve this issue.
There's a free program called Memtest86 that you can run to determine if this is the case. It will scan all your memory and look for bad sectors. You can download it here: http://www.memtest86.com/ and burn it to a CD. What it does is create a bootable CD that will execute the program as the computer turns on to scan all the memory. There are full instructions on their website. The process can take an hour or two depending on how much memory your computer has, and if it turns up any bad sectors then you know what your problem is.
A computer can run with bad sectors in the memory, but it makes it unstable that it will keep bluescreening, so if you have bad sectors in your memory it might be better just to replace the RAM. Luckily, this isn't too expensive. For instance, if your computer has 4GB of memory, it probably has 2 2GB RAM cards installed. You can get a 2GB replacement notebook memory for, I'd say $30 or $40. Installing RAM is very simple, and if you're willing to install it yourself, it won't cost you more than that.
One problem with downlonading that program, Itt is an Aspire One Zg5, it has no CD drive, is it possible to download and execute from a flash drive?
Yes, I believe so. I'm not entirely certain how it's done with Memtest86 but I found a good post here using the newer Memtest86+ which might be helpful. This seems simpler because they have a program that installs Memtest directly onto your USB, so you don't have to worry about creating a bootable USB yourself.http://www.pchelpforum.com/xf/threads/ho... . You'll want to scroll down to Method 2, the USB method, and download the "Auto Installer for USB Key (Win 9x, 2k, xp, 7)" one. That should guide you through the installation process of installing it to your USB, it's best if you have a completely blank USB that you can format and use just for Memtest. After it's installed onto your USB, you should be able to restart your computer, and your computer will automatically start the Memtest diagnostics.
If it doesn't start automatically after you restart, then you'll have to change your computer's boot order. (If it does start automatically then everything's good and you can disregard this part.) When you first turn on your computer and it shows the big "Acer" screen, it should also have some options for entering Setup, something like "Press F2 for Setup" or F10 or F12 or Del or some other key. It's different for different computers, but basically you want to find a way to enter Setup right as you turn your computer on. It'll say which key it is, but it flashes by quickly so that can be annoying. Once you get into the Setup screen, look around for the boot options screen, it most likely is going to be a tab on the top you can reach by tapping left or right on the keyboard. Once you get into the boot menu, move the USB drive to the very top. Moving is usually done with keys such as plus and minus, or F5/F6, depending on the computer. It'll say on the bottom of your screen. Once you move the USB drive to the very top of the boot list, exit Setup and restart the computer again. This time the computer should start up Memtest from the USB drive first, since you moved the USB up in booting priority.

For aspire one you need to download the Fedora 7 package from the Skype Website.
Afterwards, just do what your aspire asks you to do. When everything is installed, just press alt+F2, type in "skype", en press "Run". Skype will start up. That's it

It really sounds like you have a short in the ac adapter. Laptops dim the backlight on the screen when on battery power and go full brightness when on AC. I think your adapter is going on and off. When it is on the screen is on full and when it goes off the screen dims down a bit. You could have a bad adapter, most likely, or a bad charging jack in your laptop. Check the adapter first, just use a multimeter set to voltage. Read lead goes to the center pin and black lead goes to the outside metal contact, you should get a reading of 18 to about 26 volts. Move the wire around near the plug that you are holding and keep checking the readout. I think you will find the voltage dropping as you move the wire.

Your best bet is to do the following;
1 download either SuperAntiSpyware or MalWareBytes update via the internet and scan the disk (these are excellent and both Free)
2 Remove any Malwere they recommend
3 If the message still comes up download and run Trojan Remover - this will remove it.
Then make sure you are protected in future by installing an anti-virus system like (if you dont want to pay) Avira or Avast or if you do Kaspersky or Bitdefender

If you don't have documents, pictures, etc on the hard drive that you need to backup, try running system recovery by doing the following (not sure if this works on the version with a solid state drive): WARNING: This will format your hard drive and return your netbook to the condition it was in from the manufacturer.
1. Turn on the computer
2. Press and hold Alt + F10
3. Click on Restore System to Factory Default
4. Ensure the netbook is plugged into AC power instead of running off the battery and click OK

There is a small ribbon cable that connects the touchpad to the motherboard. If there was any dramatic jostling of the system or it was disassembled for any reason it may have come undone. I have heard of this happening in the past.
If your lucky, someone just turned it off. The toggle for the mouse pad is Fn+F7 simultaneously.
