not sure whether its a problem with the drive or a problem with windows media player. Take a can of air and blow some onto the laser of the dvd drive, this will make sure that there is no dirt or dust on the laser.

Once you do that put the dvd back into the drive. Give it about 20-30 seconds and then see if it tries to pull up the movie if it does and your getting errors from windows media player then we know that the drive is working cause its seeing the movie properly.

At that point, I would suggest downloading the latest version of windows media player.

After doing that and installing it, try playing your movie again, in fact try several movies just to make sure. Windows Media player may want to download Codecs, if it does then let it. This will allow it to recognize dvds better and quicker.

If the codecs are updated and you still can't get it to see and play movies then I would suggest using a different dvd player such as Cyberlink PowerDVD located on this page:

look at the function keys particularly F3 it launches a window on the screen where you turn on Wi Fi. check power lead pluse battery,or it could of over heated check the fan and clean if needed.

try doing a full clean up using disc clean up and defrag,

boot to and let the system come online. then plug in the mouse and let it find the proper driver for you mouse... it should then install the driver for your new mouse.... NO driver Mouse no work

Might cost you a few dollars but will save you the agpravation.

If windows is running you can start it by going to Programs, Acer Empowering Technology and run the Acer eRecovery Management. Note that on the bottom of the eRecovery Management window are 3 choices, Backup, Burn Disk and Restore. Click on Restore. Here you have the choice of select Restore System to Factory Default.

If windows is not working but the system boots -
Reboot the system and when the Acer logo appears, hold down the ALT key and press F10. This starts the recovery process, just follow the instructions.

in xp type msconfig in run box you will get ms config in start up tab check for your pop up app in list and un check also search in services tab but below list check the hide microsoft services and apply go in windows 7 : start up is in task manager open task manager go to start up tab right click on app and disable it but services is is msconfig

If you are using recovery CDs, with or without the NTLDR present in the HD should work. Perhaps what is needed is for you to set the laptop to boot from the CD. This could be done in the CMOS/BIOS configuration.

Alternately, if only the NTLDR is missing and everything else works OK, you can try removing the HD from the PC and connect it as a slave or an external USB mass storage device to a 2nd PC. It will be a simple case of copying the 2nd PC's NTLDR to the HD missing it.

In some instances, memory problem triggers this message as well. You can try cleaning the memory's little gold contacts/pins and/or try replacing them.
