Buy a new laptop.
If you have an old laptop you will find it real hard to get new parts for it.
Just get a new one and save yourself the hassle.

However if you do want to replace your motherboard, just check what type of license you have for your OS. Usually laptops come with an OEM license, meaning if you replace the motherboard, chances are real good you will need to get a new OS. Check with your vendor.

Cheers.

If it is indeed the motherboard, they can range from $80-300 sometimes. Labor as well would be expensive, as it can take an hour or (at max) 2 hours at $100/hr (what they charge at my shop). So unless you've got the patience to take a laptop apart and put it back together with the screws in the right holes then I'd say you're better off buying a new laptop -- some are as low as $300 these days!

very sorry to tell you that the lcd has gone bad because your laptop shows exact symptoms of this case.
As per what some HP costumers have told me HP takes this as a physical damage and does not give them a warranty even if it is in the warranty cover
Finally you will need to get it replaced

This is the most expensive fix after a motherboard and may cost you $180 or 8000-9000 INR

Runs alright on mains power - without battery in. has problems with touchpad starting windows. battery problem or board?

If it has problems starting windows while on battery, that could indicate processor AND motherboard issues- since the processor needs to shift to lower voltage when on battery, and the motherboard needs to be able to fully function on battery. The touchpad issue may be secondary to the underlying problems. If you are under warranty, get it into the depot for a repair. If not, your best step would be to get a replacement battery- if the issue is still there, unfortunately it would be almost as expensive to get a different laptop as getting replacement processor and motherboard for your system

My nvidia graphic card is not working.dell told me to replace motherboard as they cant remove only graphic card.please suggest me what to do???is it true?

I would not start with the motherboard right away. Try updating your drivers first. Here is a link for Nvidia drivers. Then try replacing the graphics card if updating the driver does not work. Motherboards can be expensive to replace, even if the part is not costly the labor can be.

You will need to locate the appropriate driver for your card and operating system, download it, and run it to install it.

Need to replace sound card for Sony vgn-t350p

It's true that with a laptop, replacing some parts means replacing the motherboard as they are integrated parts, this applies with the sound card. If your laptop is under warranty then you should be able to get it fixed, otherwise you need to weight the cost of replacing the motherboard verses buying a new computer. Seeing as how the motherboard in a laptop is pretty much half the computer, it may be cheaper to buy a new one.

Laptop does not work anymore. (Toshiba A135 Satellite)

Do you get power?

If not, when you remove the battery do you get power?

If there is absolutely no power to the laptop (and you know the AC adapter is ok) then it's hardware failure. If its new enough, get it warrantied through whoever sold it to your grandma, or Toshiba.

Sound card is broken

If your 5150 is off warranty, you have a serious problem.
Replacing the motherboard in a laptop is a very tricky and potentiallydangerous thing. If you are not a trained technician, I would recommendthat you take it to a professional.
Also, the cost of the motherboard and its installation is most likelyto be close to the price of a new or used machine. Perhaps this is abetter option.
Another thought occurs to me, if the machine works fine in every other way maybe you can learn to live without sound?

According to geek squad- motherboard problem on hp pavillion a220

If you've been told the motherboard needs replacing it could be true, especially in older laptops. Thinks get hot, brittle, and then a circuit gets broken. I recently had new motherboards installed in two Dell Inspiron 8200 computers. I found the boards on ebay for $70 ea. and had a local shop install them for another $70 ea.

Keep in mind Ram and video cards are common failures too.

There are quite a few diagnostic utilites out there to check for yourself before replacing the motherboards. If you want to spend the time look for ones from your computers manufacturer.
Let me know if this helps you

Hi

replacing motherboards on laptops out of warranty normally works out too expensive...

And yes, you would more than likely need to replace the mainboard, since almost all components of laptops are part of the mainboard...

Ps2 slim and Stuntman Ignition

The PS2 slim motherboard is pretty resilient, except when it comes to Lightning. if the PS2 slim will not Boot up and show the memory card or anything, the Emotion Engine processor on the motherboard is likely toasted.

If you want to fix it, you will need to get on Ebay, and find a Broken PS2 slim theat will not read disks. Be suire you know that the broken one will boot up before bidding.  I say do this, becasue it will not be worth fixing if you buy  a new Motherboard. As new PS2 slim motherboards cost around $75.

You can send the PS2 to the Playstation Clinic in South Carolina if your in the USA. I will diagnose it and fix it if I can without replacing a motherboard.  The cost for this is $31 including Return shipping and a 90 day warranty. No charge if I find it needs a motherboard and you do not want to  replace the motherboard. I run the website www.playstationclnic.com and we can replace a motherboard, but will not repair one. Too expensive to repair. Time is money.   The charge for replacing a motherboard including return shipping is about $85 for new motherboard, or $65 for a used motherboard. . This includes a 90 day warranty as well.
