Ok here is what our problem is. We have a Kenmore Elite model number 106.50599000, side by side. It is approximately 9 years old. To date we have replaced the fridge thermostat (2x), the air diffuser in the back - currently wide open so it is working, the fan that cools the compressor. I think that is it. The freezer is currently at minus 10 degrees, cranked all the way up. The fridge is cranked all the way up but it is only sitting at 50 degrees. The fan that blows across the coils for the cooling doesn't seem to run, but only when the compressor is running. If we remember it used to run when the fridge needed more cool air. Does the fan maybe have 2 settings? We had Sears out once and they asked us if we had problems with the board. Not sure what board they are talking about and what it would control. When we purchased the thermostat the guy told us that there isn't too much to go in these fridges. I'm not afraid of turning it off and tearing it apart to put a part in, but not sure what I am looking for. Any suggestions would be great!! Freezer working fine -- fridge not cold enough -- seems like fan not coming on . Thanks for any ideas.
Hello Murr9,
The number 1 reason a freezer "SEEMS" to be working... but the refrigerator isn't cutting it... is PROPER AIR FLOW...
look through the vents in the back of the freezer section...
If you see thick frost or ice... you have found your trouble
If the evaporator fan (behind the freezer wall is operating at ANY speed your REFRIGERATOR section would be adequate...
You had a repair person out... but
while that ought to mean something to me... I would rather
you do some simple checks...
- Look through those vents
- You need to check the defrost pan... DRY means you have
troubles... put a piece of fresh typing paper inside the pan...
fold it over the edge... if it is still dry the next day...
Your defrost circuit is broken...
It only has three components:
- heater element
- defrost thermostat (opens at room temperature)
- Printed Circuit Board
Your refrigerator DOES NOT have a defrost timer... but rather a PC Board...
($152, see below... plus how to video)...
Most expensive part but easiest to replace...
Important - Important - Important
TAKE PICTRES OF ALL THE WIRE
connections BEFORE you start.

Get on AMAZON and buy yourself a couple of the TAYLOR REFRIGERATOR thermometers...
zero Fahrenheit is fine for the FREEZER...
REFRIG should be just above 32 degrees

SOURCE: Kenmore coldspot model:10653502330 does not stay cold
hi thanks for the question i would check the back by the compressor make sure its clean . then check the fan in freezer to see if it works then see if the frost built up in freezer you could have just a dirty condenser thanks the appliance doc

Sounds like you're low on gas...assuming that the condenser coils are clean.
SOURCE: Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator
I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........
In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.
Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.
Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)
Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

The freezer will stay cold because a small
amount of cold air will be forced through the frost but that will not
be enough to make it up to the refrigerator portion. You can defrost
the unit by removing the metal panel and allowing the frost to melt.
Careful use of a hairdryer can speed up this process. This will likely
be a temporary fix. The root cause of excessive frost can be caused by
a bad door seal or a defective defrost circuit.
First check that the door seal is good by closing the door on a dollar
bill at several points around the door, both on the freezer and
refidgerator door. If you can pull the bill out with no resistance, the
door is not making a good seal. Inspect the seal and make sure there
isn't anything stopping the door from closing such as food, or a shelf
not pushed in all the way.
If the door seal is good, the defrost system is likely defective. The
defrost system has three main parts, the defrost heater, thermostat,
and timer. None of these parts are particularly expensive, or difficult to replace you feel comfortable with repairing it yourself. If you can troubleshoot this by manually
starting the defrost cycle. Let me know if you would like this
procedure.

HI,
if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.
thanks,
