Computer reboots when I plug in printer

My viao pcv 9911 just came back from service where they made repairs, erased my hard drive and reloaded windows xp. Now when I plug in my Samsung CLP-510 printer the computer automatically reboots and continues to reboot. I have unpluged all other devices and it still does the same. I have tried the printer on other computers and there is no problem. There are no printer drivers installed.

I would suggest to contact the repair person / company and get it looked at.

I personally when I do repairs to a computer if the client finds a new problem after the repairs I look into it / repair it for free. Hopefully the other person will do the same.

Hello

OK, at the link below you will be able to get step by step instruction on how to load windows from a USB device.

As for the CD/DVD rom, you will just be able to plug it in, no additional drivers will have to be loaded.

Kind regards

2 laptops, 1 no power, 1 no desktop

TO RESTORE DESKTOP ICONS

1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
2. On the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop.
3. Under Desktop icons, click to select the check boxes of the icons you want to view.
4. Click OK two times.

If you need to reload Windows and you want to save/backup your data then :-
Remove the hard drive from the laptop, connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into a working computer's USB port.
This computer will see this as an external hard drive, then open the various folders and copy/backup the files and or folder that is on the external hard drive. When done, reinstall the hard drive in the laptop and reload windows.

For the laptop that is not getting any power, check to adapter plug that plugs into the power socket of the laptop with a multi-meter.
The voltage reading should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If you are getting a very low reading then the adapter is faulty and needs replacing.

If the voltage reading is OK then plug it into the laptop and wriggle this plug. If the charge LED flashes as you wriggle the plug, then the power socket is either faulty or has a dry solder joint. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be dismantled completely to do this repair. Get a quote for the repair before you go ahead, it might not be cheap.

SONY VIAO BGN SZ390P WO'NT RECOGNIZE CD/DVD DRIVE

You need to download the specific drivers for your drive from the sony web site. I am sure this is the problem. The site is set up to easily scan your computer and give you a list of drivers you need. I set up a Vaio two weeks ago, and loaded the drivers from the site for the disk drives, hard drive, monitor and sound card. Hope this helps. If you have reloaded all of the SONY drivers and it still does not recognize the drive, it sould be that it is not the drive that originally came with your computer.

OK I MEANT THE MACHINE IS NOT BOOTING BUT INSTEAD ITS SHOWING AN ACTIVE HYPHEN ON THE SCREEN. IT CANT EVEN BOOT OR READ OS FROM A CD.

Go into your bios settings and apply "Bios defaults",
Be sure the boot order is set to
1. CD/DVD
2. Hard Disk Drive
then save and reboot.
If the system boot, scan your drive with a good anti-virus.
If not, insert your Windows installation disk and reboot, press space if prompt to do so to boot on the CD. Reinstall Windows.
If it does not work, boot with a dos diskette, with fdisk.exe, delete all your partitions. Reinstall Windows.

Lets try this, Seprate you hardrive if you can (use this link for a step by step advice : http://laptoplogic.com/resources/detail.php?id=43). Once you have the hard drive seprated test it using a USB connector (or get it tested). If your hard drive works fine then just re-assebling it into the machine should work, else my friend we need to get the hard drive replaced for good.
