Kenmore Refidgerator is not cooling

The refigerator fans are running and the compressor is hot. Every once in a while it sounds like the compressor is starting but then stops. I have removed the start relay and it appears broken. I shake it and little pieces of metal come out. I ordered the new relay but is this the only problem? Is leaving the frige on ok? I have ice in the freezer keeping the food cold using the fans to circulate.

Let fridge cool down it sounds like the relay overload is bad try replacing it with a 3 n 1 start kit directions on the kit real easy to hook up... if the compressor starts then you are ok... hopefully the compressor is not burned out good luck

Is the compressor running?? If its hot but not running , humming and clicking sound you may have just a bad compressor relay. Or a bad compressor.
If your compressor is runing you have lost your freon.Leak or hole in system.

Neither refrigerator nor freezer cooling.

sounds like the compressor or relay went out. if the compressor is hot turn off and let cool to room temp. and try it then [a few hours] , if it is not hot then replace the relay on the compressor.

Freezer staying frozen fridge not cooling

HI,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.
thanks,

Hot to touch

there is another fan at the bottom, rear, of the refigerator. remove the bootom panel and look at the cooling fins to make sure they are not bent into the fan blades. Caefully bend the fins away from the fan. this should improve the cooling of the refrigerator and get rid of the hot spot on the rail between the refrigerator and freezer.

Refigerator not cooling and hot to the touch

It sounds a lot like lost charge caused by a leak in your system. If your unit has been moved or improperly cleaned, some part of the pressurized system may be damaged.
Refrigerant (with very small molecules) may leak off over many years but it shouldn't happen in the single digits.

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

Compressor is extremely hot

Compressor will be hot to the touch. You stated the fan was replaced and then said the fan is not cooling. If you replaced the fan and it is now operating, reinstall the panel you removed to install the fan motor. That panel determines proper air circulation to cool the system.
