This is probably due to dust or other foreign matter on the CCD. Look at the Pentax *ist DL manual under "CCD cleaning" or "sensor cleaning" for instructions.

There is a "sensor cleaning" mode in the Set-up menu that will lock the mirror up so you can inspect/clean the CCD sensor.

Go to the support section of the Pentax website and you can download a copy to your computer.
