Classic sign of bad inverter. Since it is inside the LCD not something you can fix yourself unless you work with electronics. Needs to go to the repair shop.

Samsung ln40b550k1f screen flickers on and off

When the screen flickers on and off it usually comes from the power supply or backlight inverter being bad. For your TV, the backlight inverter and power supply unit are combined. As you can see in the picture attached it's the white part on the right side that has gone bad. You will need to replace that board. LN40B550K1F Samsung LCD TV Repair Guide

LCD screen flickering

Display Configuration A flickering screen may be caused by the computer detecting incorrect display settings as it starts or returns from sleep. It can also come from changes to the screen resolution settings caused by a new program or update installation. Verify screen resolution before assuming the issue is hardware related. Faulty Inverter Next to the display screen behind the plastic screen bezel is a small component called the inverter, which supplies power to the screen backlight. The flickering indicates the power is not reaching the backlight. To fix the issue, replace the inverter. Faulty Connectors The wires and cables traveling from the display around the hinges and into the motherboard tend to wear at the hinge area. Over time, the opening and closing of the screen causes this wear. The solution is to disassemble the plastic casing of the laptop, reorganize the cables so they have no interference from hinges, or replace the cables and connectors with new ones made specifically for the computer make and model experiencing the issue. b> Test an LCD Inverter An inverter is an electrical device on the bottom of your laptop screen. The job of the inverter is to convert DC electrical current to AC voltage to maintain power to the backlight lamp. If the display on your laptop is dark but working, odds are the inverter or the lamp are at fault. When troubleshooting monitor problems on a laptop, you may need to evaluate the inverter to determine which of the two parts is malfunctioning.

Remove the screen bezel on your laptop. The bezel is the piece of the computer casing that surrounds and protects the LCD screen. To remove the bezel, remove the screws around the screen. Bezel removal method may vary by model. Once the screws come out, the bezel should pop off. The inverter will be under the screen. Attach the positive probe (+) of a multimeter to the pin 1 on the inverter. The inverter has two connections, one on each end. With the laptop screen facing you, look at the left side of the inverter. Pin 1 is the top metal flange pointing to the right. Secure the negative probe (-) of the multimeter to any bare screw. There should be a screw securing the inverter to the laptop that will be perfect for the negative ground connection. Turn the laptop on to test the inverter. Turn the multimeter on and check the multimeter reading. If the display records voltage going to the inverter, such as 19 V DC, the inverter power supply is working. Turn the laptop off. Unplug the LCD inverter connection on the right side of the inverter. This disconnects the backlight from the inverter. Plug a working backlight to the connection on the right side of the inverter. Turn on the laptop. If the screen lights up, the backlight lamp is bad but the inverter works. If the screen remains dark, the inverter is bad.

Upper sise of screen flickering problem

Technology b> A laptop's display assembly consists of an LCD panel, an inverter board and a backlight lamp. The inverter board supplies power to the lamp which lights up the LCD screen as it generates images. Light from the lamp is then uniformly distributed over the panel to create images. b> Cause b> Flickering is commonly caused by a damaged or malfunctioning inverter. Because a faulty inverter is not able to supply adequate power to the backlight lamp, the screen goes dim each time the backlight loses power. In some cases, flickering may also be caused by a faulty connection between the inverter and backlight lamp. Diagnosis b> Resolving a laptop screen's flickering problem entails correctly diagnosing the problem and replacing the faulty component. You may diagnose the problem by hooking up the laptop to an external display unit, such as a projector. If the external display has the same display problem as the laptop's LCD screen, it is indicative of a motherboard or video card problem. If the external unit displays bright, crisp images, the problem is probably caused by the backlight or inverter. b> Solution b> You may repair a laptop screen's flickering problem by replacing the inverter board or backlight. Order parts from a trusted supplier and replace the component by referring to your product documentation.

Monitor on/off button flickers

Hi!
The reason why the button of your monitor flickers is because the 12 volts output supply for your inverter board is not stable..
If you have the skills and the right tools for this, Here's what you need to do
1. If your monitor comes with a power supply adapter, open it..check and replace blown capacitor with same value..
2. If your monitor is using a cable power cord..open the back cover of your lcd..on the power supply section.. check and replace blown capacitor.
3. Check and resolder the terminals for fixing possible loose connections.
4. On the inverter board section...check and resolder the terminals for fixing possible loose connections, the high voltage inverter usually loose connections when overheat.
5. Other things to check if step 1 to 4 did not resolve your problem. Check and replace burnt high voltage transformer.. Check and replace busted backlight inverter..

Hope this fix your problems..

thanks.. much appreciated if you rate this help.

Power supply to the screen backlight keeps going out

You may have a faulty inverter or defective CCFL lamp. A faulty CCFL lamp may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering and/or with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight or a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. Usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
