Are there built in speakers in my desktop?

My monitor just died, so I picked up a used Dell at the thrift store. When buying this monitor I forgot about sound, my HP (dead) monitor had speakers built-in. I know it's a dumb question but does my desktop have built-in speakers? I probably have to purchase some, darn it.

SOURCE: No cable and no sound on speakers for flat screen monitor

Hello Tothelake45,
When you bought your computer, you might have received lot of cables along with it... so find out the cable that has the jacks on both the ends of the cable. The Jack looks like that shown below.
a9b0d44.jpg
So we are looking for a cable that has a jack at both the ends.. One jack goes into the soundcard of your computer (the green color coded port or the port where you normally connect your desktop speakers or headphones) and the other end goes to the similar connector on the monitor which is color coded as well (green color).
Please let me know if that works and please do not forget to rate the solution.

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

SOURCE: Can Dell speakers be used with HP computers?

Well speakers are speakers so to "Speak" ... As long as the INPUT connections are the same, then, there is NO reason why they should not work.

You audio may be muted. Go to the control panel and click sound & audio.. Check to see if there's a check in the mute option, if so uncheck it.

Speaker in the Monitor?

It looks like there are no speakers according to:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/monitor/0000/Acer/X193/X193sp2.shtml

You should be able to use any external speakers to your system. The question is looks and power. You will likely have to buy speakers that have power in order to get enough volume.

Most speakers that come with monitors are of very, very low quality. You now have the option of buying good speakers (if you want to pay for them). If you are in a hurry you can likely pick up cheap speakers at the drugstore or Walmart. Another option is headphones.

Good luck finding the right sound.

Hello. The menu box keeps displaying on the Dell monitor screen. I hit the exit button and it doesn't disappear. The box is fixed on the screen. What can I do? Thanks.

Hi,

those older dell CRT monitors arent of the highest of quality even when theyre new. It may be time for a new monitor. you can pick up a good used CRT monitor at the thrift store. make sure to test it i at the thrift store, they usually have a test area where you can plug in the monitor. also you might want to try a pawn shop if your interested in a newer flat screen for cheap too.

sorry

I can not tell in my monitor has speakers

Most monitors do not have built in speakers and the ones that do have them are usually of fair quality. Look for speaker grills under your monitor's screen. Didn't find speaker grills? You can buy computer speakers at a computer store or at Walmart. Your computer, desktop or laptop, has a green jack that you plug a set of speakers into. The volume control may be on the speakers or on your keyboard.

No sound

If speakers are built into the monitor, then there should be an audio cable that connects from the monitor to the green speaker out jack on the back of the computer.

If speakers are NOT built into the monitor, then buy a set of speakers from a store.

Trying to add speakers

The only way i can see of feeding two sets of speakers from the one pc would be to buy or make up a "splitter" audio lead .....i.e a 3.5mm stereo jack on one end connected to the pc with two lots of wiring going to 2 3.5 mm jacks. I don't know whether a store like Maplins would sell such a lead. Are you any good with a soldering iron??

No sound coming from my Dell 173FP monitor

This monitor does not have built in speakers you will need to buy some... The AS 500 soundbar fits on to it but is now not available. See if you can find it second hand.. Or buy USB speakers that fit into the back of your PC as the mointor does not have any ports.

Cannot get any sound from my Dimension 3100

Speakers are not built into the box itself. They may be in the monitor, or completely separate.

Did you get this directly from Dell, or from a third party. Dell would have shipped you speakers with it, or a monitor with speakers built-in. Purchased from a third-party you might just get the box itself.

If you have a monitor with speakers, you still have to connect the sound output from the box to the monitor.
