Sounds like the power supply has failed. That's where you plug the power wire into it. You could try opening the case and re-seating the main plug connector on the mother board. This is the big bunch of wires that ends in a 24 pin plug attached to the main board. Unless you are familiar with removing and installing the internal components of the computer it is unlikely that you will be able to fix this computer yourself. It sounds like there is a hardware fault. It could be as simple as something overheating or even a fan cable coming loose but at almost 10 years old it's amazing the system is still going. If the fan making a smooth spin, but the noise is too loud, then it means the fan is trying to dissipate the heat. Probably the air inlet and or the air outlet (also the fan itself) is dirty (or clogged) and you need to clean it up using a canned air. You may need to open the case/body if the dust become a dust ball (and you need a tweezer and qtip to pickup the dust ball and clean up the fan blades).
