I own a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis and I need some help. With the headlight switch in the off position all dash and display lights including the digital clock work fine, but the display on the radio and a\c do not work. Even though the display does not work the radio and a\c control work properly. If I turn the headlights on then the display on the radio and a\c control can both be seen. With the headlights on I can use the dimmer switch to brighten and lower all of the interior display lights. I have checked the fuses to the best of my ability and they seem to be ok. This issue with the radio and a/c started all of a sudden without any warning. I would appreciate any help with this problem. I asked about this problem before but I did not explain the problem in detail and I got confused. Thanks once again

There are two 15amp fuses marked 4 and 8 that provide power to the light control module. If those fuses are good, and those circuits have power, the problem may be with the control module. The module provides power to the dash lights.
You may need a shop to trace the circuits and find the problem.

SOURCE: headlights and interior dash lights flickering mercury marquis

while this occurs; do you hear clicking near your right foot area while sitting in the drivers seat? it may be heard very faint (you may have to remove the sound barrier panel under the dash first. Does this problem only happen with "Automatic" lights? Does it happen while in the parking lamps position? I wish to suggest the light switch itself, or the connector at that switch may be loose, or the negative supplying the switch could be loose. But more likely, you should check for a defective BCM, or loose connections to it, located between the lower left of the ash tray area and the accerator petal area (the relay inside on the circuit board may have a bad solder connection to it) ... or the relay inside is bad period.

SOURCE: 2003 mercury grand marquis headlights will cut out

My 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis has the same problem. We found out it was the headlight module located under the dash above the gas pedal. The black box has wire connectors coming out of the back. Hitting the box worked for a little while, then I had to reach in the back and wiggle the wire harness. The dealership wants 500.00 to replace the unit. I consider Highway Robbery! They have installed a faulty piece of equipment on my Luxury car that could easily be life threatening but we know it won't be recalled until someone dies because of it. My husband was able to remove the unit and looked it over it had two circuit boards and he was unable to visibly see any problem or loose wire. He cleaned the connectors and used some electrical terminal grease on the wires, this improved it for a short time. The problem still exsists. I have sat for 30 minutes or more waiting for them to go through the On/Off cycle till they stay on for the 45 minute ride home from work. I have beat the box with my flashlight (maglights handle the abuse, my fingers and nails don't) till it came loose from the brackets that hold it. I leave my car running while pumping gas, short shopping trips and start it 20 or 30 minutes early before leaving for work. It is frustrating and dangerous. If this is the kind of quality in our American made cars it's no wonder they needed a BailOut! The only thing we have found to "fix" it is to find a used part that could possibly have the same problem shortly down the road or pay the theives at the dealership to replace it.

2005 grand marquis - headlights don't always come on. It seems when I drive the call for a while and turn off - then 15min later the headlights don't always come on

That is a common problem for the Marquis/Crown Vics for the time period. Check the connector (Unplug it and look at it) to the LCM Lighting Control Module the black plastic box with slots cut in it and a white plug with wires in it. It is under the dash to the left of the brake pedal. Unplug it and then plug it in and see if that helps. Ford will want an arm and two legs for it. Check a junkyard or Ebay.
Google it for a pic or go to this Ebay link to see the pic.

I have a 93 Mercury Grand Marquis and the headlights randomly turn off and on, does anyone know how to solve this?

There are 3 components for the headlights in your dash. The headlight switch, the delay switch, and the autolamp light sensor. If you have the lights manually turned on, without the autolamp position on the switch being on, then the headlight switch is a simple off-on switch.
If the headlight switch is manually on and the lights are cutting out the problem is either the fusible links or bad contacts in the light switch.
If you are using the autolamp position on the light switch, this is a different circuit. The autolamp system needs the light sensor to work. If the light sensor is dangling under the tiny slots in the dash every bump you hit will shake it. Or it can be a broken filament in the light sensor. To test, just eliminate the circuit by using only the manual off-on side of your light switch.

A loose power wire to the light switch (or ground) will affect BOTH the manual and automatic settings. But if the manual setting always works, then its the automatic parts that are broken. The delay switch does not work until after the ignition is off so it can not be the problem while you are driving.

Headlights constantly go on and off, all other lights stay on my 2003 mercury grand marquis. where are the relays located?

Sounds like a bad headlight switch, the 2003 mercury marquis has a circuit breaker built into the headlight switch that goes bad.
Check with your mercury dealer for a headlight switch recall.
