I need to scan documents to .pdf but cannot due to black ink cartridge being gone. How can I scan and bypass the error code that stops the scanner driver and results in error: 2,140,21? Thanks.
SOURCE: E5 and 2,114,0 errors on Canon MP160
I got this Error 2,114,0 with my MP210 and none of the above fixes worked. This is how I have got it working again: Press and hold the maintenance (picure of spanner and screw driver) button and the reset button ( Inverted red triangle) together for five seconds or more. The flashing error code 1 and 6 will then stop flashing and replaced by a print copy no 1. The printer/scanner is reset and the scanner works.

THIS SOLUTION FOR PEOPLE WHO CANNOT RESET THEIR OWN PRINTER LIKE ME
hi, now i got a solution how to SCAN if your printer have E-5 error or something. First u must remove the both cartridge from your printer and make sure u connect your printer to your computer, after that, do this
With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
And then you will see no error in your printer (the LED shows number 1,and the alarm is in green)
NOW U CAN SCAN USING MP NAVIGATOR!

Don't use refill cartridges, because it will damage your printer someday. and will cost your parts as brand new. so better use the original ink.
TRY THIS STEPS...

I have one of these printers and have found the problem, crappy enigineering and inferior parts. Looking at the printer from behind, on the left side (where the motor is located) There are two white gears, located at the bottom and behind a larger black gear. One is of medium size and has a spring. The other is smaller and slides into the medium gear. If you can get these two gears back together and in their proper location, then you're set. But, if you're like me and get frustrated easily, DON'T TRY IT! I broke mine :( A repair will cost as much as a cheap printer, so bite the bullet and hit-up your local rite-aid, they have printers that wont bust the bank. Keep your MP 150, after all the scanner/copier will still work without its attached printer.

There is know way round this, I can understand why you would want to do it this way. I have had a canon for years and i think canon are the best printers sold on the market today. The main reason i brought this printer was due to the document feeder and that it does everything you could really ask for from a all in one. I also refill my own ink. The best thing to do is to buy empty cartridges and install then in the printer so you can use all the other features available with the mx310.....
These types of severe cartridge
errors (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", etc.)
typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP #60-61 cartridge
are electrically damaged - now, these errors can be bypassed on select printer models (temporarily). The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and
lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible
to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the
older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure due
to prolonged ink exposure and subsequent circuit corrosion. I suggest you
always run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health
(this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on C4600-C4700
models which use HP 60 cartridges. Refer to Inkjet411 youtube videos below:
