Gexl1800 over the stove just quit working. i checked two fuses and i got a short on both. can you help
GE Profile Microwave JES2251SJ02 - Only 13 months old, unit completely dead. Stopped working while heating cup of water. No power failure and outlet is fine. No lights, no keypad response!!!
It sounds like the magnetron overheated and opened the thermal fuse on the magnetron.
This can be caused when
the internal cooling fan is not running or by a magnetron that is
failing.
When I say internal
cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn
on and off manually.
I'm instead talking
about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you
microwave.
It is vital that the
cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be destroyed.
There
should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very
helpful
when troubleshooting & testing.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
You can also find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full
model number here.
The magnetron will have a 5 to 9 year warranty. Your manual will tell you that.
You can download GE
owner's manuals and installation instructions here.
If needed, GE may send
you a replacement magnetron. GE Customer Service is here.

In reality, fuses don't just blow for no reason.
If nothing else, I would bet your fuse holder is loose or there was a stray power line surge.
Maybe you got lucky (hopefully), and it was some kind of glitch, but I would bet it will blow again within 6 months or possibly far less.
If that happens, please feel free to let me know (by replying here or directly) and I'll be very happy to help you.
As for the negative rating, Ouch! That hurts.
Good luck. Take care.

It turned out to need a new fuse ($8.00 approximately). GE provided the service call and fuse - no charge as unit 13 months old.
